Space Huggers is a free, browser-based run-and-gun roguelike platformer by KilledByAPixel (Frank Force). Its standout feature is terrain you can destroy: shoot, roll and throw grenades as you fight through five stages and a final boss to liberate each planet.
What is Space Huggers?
Released on October 24, 2021, Space Huggers began as KilledByAPixel’s entry in the js13kGames 2021 competition, where games are built under a 13 KB limit. It runs on the open-source LittleJS engine and uses ZzFX for sound. You can play it in a desktop or mobile browser from the official Space Huggers page.
How does a run work?
The game combines side-scrolling platforming with run-and-gun combat. Levels are procedurally generated, and their terrain is destructible, so your blaster and grenades can help carve routes as well as fight enemies. Rolls provide another way to move through combat.
Each planet’s run consists of five stages followed by a final boss. An on-screen radar helps you find enemies still left to clear.

How do you play Space Huggers?

Can you play with a controller or friends?
Xbox- and SNES-style gamepads are supported, and optional local co-op accommodates two to four players. If a gamepad is not detected, the official page advises pressing one of its buttons once and checking that the browser tab has focus.
Choose the input that suits your setup: keyboard and mouse, a compatible gamepad, or the mobile virtual pad. A gamepad is optional, not a requirement. The co-op is local; the page does not describe online multiplayer.
