In Operations, revive teammates when practical, manage limited healing, and pick a class that suits the role you want to play. The combat and survival fundamentals below come from Epic Games Store’s 2024 guide; class and update details are dated to official sources through October 1, 2026.
Learn when to parry and when to dodge
Watch the enemy rather than attacking continuously through a wind-up. Epic Games Store’s beginner guide says a blue flashing cue marks an attack that can be parried, while a red flashing cue signals an attack to dodge. The guide’s examples include PC bindings; on console, or if you have changed controls, follow the bindings displayed for your own setup.
A well-timed parry can kill a weaker enemy or stagger a tougher one. When a parry or another stagger creates an opening, a Gun Strike can add damage; take it when the opening is safe rather than forcing the shot in the middle of a crowd. Heavy melee attacks can also create Gun Strike opportunities. These are general combat priorities, not guarantees against every enemy or on every difficulty. (Epic Games Store beginner guide, September 5, 2024)
Use executions to protect your armor
When an enemy is severely damaged, it may become available for an execution. Executions partially restore armor, so they serve a survival purpose as well as finishing an opponent. Armor depletion leaves your health exposed to damage; look for an execution opportunity when you need to regain armor, but avoid reaching for one if doing so would put you in greater danger.

Play for the squad in Operations
Operations rewards attention to teammates and to limited recovery resources. Revive an incapacitated ally when the fight allows it, and keep track of healing rather than assuming you can recover whenever you need to.
- Medicae Stimms: The 2024 Epic guide says these partially restore lost health and that a player can carry up to two. Exact item rules can change, so check the current in-game description.
- Guardian Relics: The guide describes these as items that can enable self-revival. Check the current item prompt and mode rules before relying on one.
- Mortal Wounds: The guide describes difficulty-dependent rules for Mortal Wounds. Because those details may have changed since 2024, confirm the current rules in-game rather than treating an older guide as definitive.
- Reinforcements: When the situation permits, prioritize enemies that call in reinforcements; letting them do so can make an already difficult fight harder.
These are practical team priorities, not a promise that every revive or target switch is safe. (Epic Games Store beginner guide, September 5, 2024)

Choose a class for the playstyle you want to learn
Operations classes have distinct weapons, abilities, and perks, so choose around the kind of combat you want to practice rather than a universal “best beginner class.” A squad cannot freely duplicate classes, making coordination worthwhile when playing with friends. If you play solo, the game handles class selection for AI teammates.
Older guides that list only six classes are out of date. Xbox Wire identified Techmarine as the seventh playable class in January 2026 and described it as a crowd-control and area-defense specialist with a turret, a combat skill, and its own perk tree. The official FAQ is useful for mode and platform context, but some entries are launch-era, so treat class and mode details as subject to later updates. Experiment with weapons and build progression
Try the weapons available to your chosen class and learn their combo chains. The pause menu includes combo references, which are more useful for developing reliable habits than button-mashing. In Operations, weapon use earns XP toward mastery and perks, while Requisition can unlock class and weapon perks or armor cosmetics. Stick with a weapon long enough to understand its attack patterns, then experiment with another loadout when you want a different feel; the available options depend on class.
No weapon or class is established here as the best for every new player. Balance changes and individual preference matter, and the cited sources do not provide current comparative testing. (Epic Games Store beginner guide, September 5, 2024)

Know which 2026 changes matter to beginners
Patch 15.0, dated October 1, 2026, added Crucible, an endgame PvE activity for level-25 classes, with separate matchmaking, self-imposed Penances, XP, and customization rewards. It is a later goal, not a prerequisite for learning combat or starting Operations. Focus Entertainment called it its “first true endgame activity” and said its rewards are meant to expand over time. (Focus Entertainment Patch Notes 15.0, October 1, 2026)
The same update reworked Tactical perks and introduced a one-handed Thunder Hammer. Warhammer Community says the hammer is available to Tactical, Assault, Bulwark, and Techmarine; it also notes that some powerful melee choices cost Tactical its primary weapon. These patch-specific loadout changes may affect later experimentation, but they do not change the basic beginner priorities of reading cues, surviving fights, and learning your class. (Warhammer Community, October 1, 2026)
A practical first-session checklist
- Check your displayed controls, then practice distinguishing blue parry cues from red dodge cues.
- Use parries, staggers, and heavy attacks to create openings; take Gun Strikes when the situation is safe.
- Look for execution opportunities when armor recovery would help and the approach is not too risky.
- In Operations, revive allies when practical, track healing items, and coordinate class choices with your squad.
- Pick a class and try its available weapons; consult the pause-menu combo references and build familiarity before judging a loadout.
For platform availability, Saber Interactive’s FAQ lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Check the listing for the platform you play; no particular edition or current price is established here. (Saber Interactive FAQ)
