Spartan Survivors, a free-to-play fan-made Halo-inspired roguelite, released on Steam on October 28, 2025. The “coming to Steam next month” wording dates to a June 2025 news story and is no longer current. Halo Studios’ Director of Communication praised the game, but it is not an official Halo release or a project endorsed by Microsoft.
What is Spartan Survivors?
Spartan Survivors is a single-player action game by Bathrobe and Aubega, published by Bathrobe. Steam describes it as a roguelite and bullet-heaven game in which players fight waves of Covenant and Flood enemies. It is free to play on Steam.
The Steam listing advertises ten levels, five difficulty modes, 21 weapons with 105 evolutions, 14 perks with 56 upgrades, eight playable characters with distinct weapons, perks, and stats, and a custom-game unlock. These are features stated by the storefront, not independent performance or gameplay test results.
Did the Halo fan game come out on Steam?
Yes. Steam lists October 28, 2025, as Spartan Survivors’ release date. The June 25, 2025, PC Guide story behind the “next month” phrasing was written before that release; its forecast should not be read as current news.

The developer’s itch.io page also describes the game as released and provides Windows downloads. The two pages are the documented access routes; check the relevant storefront for current availability and listing details.
What did Halo Studios actually say?
The Steam page reproduces a positive June 2025 comment attributed to Halo Studios’ Director of Communication: “Really love to see the passion you and your team have poured into this experience – it really is fun and we look forward to getting further in our play through and unlocking more stuff.” That is favorable feedback about the project, not a statement that Microsoft or Halo Studios made or officially endorsed the game.

The Steam listing and the developer’s itch.io page both say the game is not endorsed by or affiliated with Microsoft. The developer says it was created under Microsoft’s “Game Content Usage Rules.” Separately, GameSpot reported on June 24, 2025, that Microsoft asked the team to make clear in the credits and store pages that the project was not an official Halo game or made in partnership with Halo Studios. That reported request explains the distinction behind the headline’s “blessing” framing; it does not establish a partnership.
Can you play it with a controller?
Yes. The developer lists keyboard, mouse, Xbox controller, and touchscreen as input methods on itch.io. A controller is optional; keyboard and mouse are also supported. The listed inputs do not establish a current Xbox console release.

What PC does Spartan Survivors require?
Steam’s detailed requirements are Windows-specific. The minimum specification lists Windows 10, a 64-bit processor and operating system, 4 GB RAM, DirectX 11, and 1 GB of available storage. The processor options shown are Intel i5-4690, Intel i3-10100, or AMD Ryzen 3 1200. Steam recommends Windows 11, Intel Core i5-10400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, 8 GB RAM, and 1 GB storage.
Although the Steam page includes a SteamOS + Linux platform heading, the detailed requirements cited here are for Windows; the heading alone does not confirm the extent of Linux compatibility.

What was the early download figure?
In a June 28, 2025, developer update, JuanGGZ reported more than 6,000 unique downloads. That is a developer-reported count from that date, not a current download total. Steam’s description also mentions more than 10,000 unique downloads on itch.io, but does not date that figure, so it cannot be treated as a dated or current count. The June update is available on itch.io.
