Contemporary reports described a five-player live-service concept, but it was never officially announced—and leaked footage is not proof of a finished game or a release plan.
What happened with The Great Web trailer?
Insider Gaming and Push Square reported on March 12, 2024 that a trailer said to be for Spider-Man: The Great Web had surfaced online. Reports connected the material to files stolen during the ransomware attack on Insomniac Games; PlayStation LifeStyle also reported that the project had been canceled before the trailer leak. These are accounts of leaked material, not an official game announcement. Insider Gaming, Push Square, PlayStation LifeStyle.
What did the leaked trailer appear to show?
Insider Gaming described a five-player multiplayer game built around a live-service model. The trailer reportedly showed Spider-people teaming up across alternate versions of New York, with customization and a fight against the Sinister Six. The report attributed narration to Yuri Lowenthal, the voice of Peter Parker in Insomniac’s games. Push Square interpreted the footage as showing a player joining up to four friends and traveling between different New Yorks.
Those details are descriptions and interpretations of leaked footage, not confirmed specifications. Push Square assessed the trailer as looking more like an early concept than a finished game. Polished-looking footage alone cannot establish that a project was complete, playable, or close to release. Insider Gaming, Push Square.

Was The Great Web officially announced or confirmed?
No. The Great Web was not officially announced, and the contemporaneous coverage had no official reference trailer against which to verify the leaked material. ComicBook.com noted at the time that the trailer could theoretically be fake. No verified project-specific statement from a named Insomniac, PlayStation, or Marvel representative appears in the cited reports. The leak coverage dates from March 12, 2024, so reports about whether the companies had commented describe that moment—not necessarily the present. ComicBook.com.
Insomniac’s support guidance, timestamped November 21, 2025, says that information not stated by Insomniac or its trusted partners at PlayStation and Marvel should be considered “a rumor, potentially false, or possibly misinformed.” The studio directs readers to its official social accounts for news. That general guidance is not independent confirmation of the leaked trailer’s details. Insomniac Games Support.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a released, related Insomniac game, but it is not The Great Web and does not unlock the canceled project or its trailer. Its single-player format is distinct from the multiplayer concept described in the leak. Push Square.
