Deep Cut is the idol trio of Splatoon 3: Shiver, Frye, and Big Man. They host Splatsville’s Anarchy Splatcast, perform music together, and become involved in the city’s story as self-described bandits whose stolen funds help local residents.
Who are the Deep Cut idols?
Deep Cut are three local heroes from the Splatlands as well as the hosts of the Anarchy Splatcast, the in-game broadcast covering battle news and stages. Nintendo describes their style as a mix of distinct talents built around excitement and chaos. Their performance roles are complementary rather than ranked: Shiver sings, Frye dances, and Big Man writes the music and makes the backing tracks. Nintendo’s Deep Cut profile calls the trio known for “never losing a battle in Splatsville.”

Shiver: leader and singer
Shiver is Deep Cut’s official leader, a position determined by an earlier Splatfest. Nintendo describes her as a shark tamer, singer, and dancer. Her poised leadership sits alongside a playful personal detail: she likes counting money in her spare time.
Frye: dancer with a soft side
Frye brings the group’s high-energy dance presence. Nintendo characterizes her as reckless and brash, with a tendency to get into fights, but also softhearted. She is a foodie and, like Shiver, is described as both a singer and dancer on Nintendo’s amiibo profile.

Big Man: songwriter and producer
Big Man is Deep Cut’s good-natured manta ray musician. He creates the group’s backing tracks and is its primary songwriter, while also taking center stage in performances as the dancing manta ray mascot.
Deep Cut’s story and connections to other idols
Nintendo’s July 12, 2024 retrospective describes all three members as heirs to prominent Splatsville families. They call themselves noble bandits: they steal valuables and direct the proceeds toward helping Splatsville through financial hardship. In Splatoon 3’s story, they sneak into Alterna to loot it and come into conflict with the New Squidbeak Splatoon.

The trio’s ties to other idol groups bring music into the story. Big Man secretly collaborated with the Squid Sisters under a pseudonym; when Shiver and Frye discovered the secret, it led to a musical reckoning. Deep Cut also clashed with Off the Hook after Shiver and Frye rushed the stage at the duo’s Splatlands show. Nintendo gives Deep Cut’s catchphrase as “catch ya later!” These are highlights of the group’s official retrospective, not a full account of every story event.

- “Now or Never! (Cover)”
- “Hide and Sleek”

- “Calamari Inkantation 3MIX”
The profile’s live-performance entries are dated October 9, 2022, and February 10, 2024. Its performance description makes the trio’s division of labor clear: Shiver sings, Frye dances, and Big Man supplies the songwriting and musical foundation.

The original Splatoon-series Deep Cut amiibo figures—Shiver, Frye, and Big Man—were released on November 17, 2023, according to Nintendo’s figure pages. Nintendo’s Splatoon 3 beginner guide says the set lets players dress as the trio in Splatoon 3. Nintendo’s Shiver amiibo page also describes unlocking special gear, taking in-game photos together, and saving customized gear, weapons, and settings to the figure.
Amiibo functions vary by game, and these original Splatoon-series figures are distinct from later Splatoon Raiders editions. Check the precise figure and game compatibility before buying or using one; Nintendo’s pages caution that amiibo compatibility and functionality may vary.
