Splatoon Raiders has two officially confirmed ways to obtain outfits: complete challenges across the islands, or scan compatible Splatoon series amiibo. The Shiver, Frye, and Big Man Splatoon Raiders amiibo each unlock an outfit themed after its character. Nintendo has not published a complete outfit inventory or a model-by-model reward list for every compatible amiibo, so the most accurate “every outfit” guide is a complete explanation of the confirmed routes, named rewards, requirements, and limitations.
Amiibo scanning is locked until you finish the first three raids. After that, the menu path is Gear > Style > amiibo > Scan! from the title screen, followed by touching the figure to the NFC point on your Joy-Con 2 or Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.

The two official ways to unlock outfits
Nintendo’s launch materials identify two acquisition systems. You can earn outfits through normal play by completing challenges on the islands, or you can unlock additional outfits with compatible Splatoon series amiibo. The official announcement does not publish a challenge-by-challenge reward table, while the amiibo information identifies the three new Raiders figures and describes the rest of the compatible series more generally.
| Method | What you need | What Nintendo specifically confirms | When it is available |
|---|---|---|---|
| Island challenges | Progress through the game and complete challenges across the islands | Challenges award outfits with a variety of designs; individual challenge names and rewards are not listed in the cited announcement. | As you encounter and complete eligible challenges |
| Compatible Splatoon amiibo | A compatible physical amiibo figure | Compatible figures unlock an in-game outfit. Nintendo describes non-Raiders Splatoon figures as unlocking “another outfit.” | After the first three raids, when the amiibo option unlocks |
| Shiver, Frye, or Big Man Raiders amiibo | The corresponding Splatoon Raiders figure, sold separately | Each figure unlocks an outfit themed after its character. | After the first three raids |
These are not competing loot systems with published drop rates. Challenges are the game’s earn-through-play route; amiibo are an optional physical-figure route. Nintendo has not said that a difficulty setting changes outfit rewards. Its launch information discusses enemy strength and equal loot in the context of difficulty, but it does not establish a separate outfit-reward rule.

Outfits earned from island challenges
How the challenge route works
Nintendo’s June 30, 2026 Direct recap says that completing challenges across the islands gives you “slick outfits with all sorts of designs.” In practical terms, this is the route that does not require buying an amiibo: explore the islands, accept or discover available challenges, and finish their stated objectives. When a challenge awards clothing, the outfit becomes part of your collection.
The challenge system is therefore the baseline answer for players who want to collect outfits through gameplay. It also avoids the compatibility questions attached to older amiibo, because the reward is tied to an in-game activity rather than to a particular figure.
What has not been published
The official announcement currently linked by Nintendo does not name every challenge, identify each outfit, state the order in which rewards appear, or provide a complete reward table. It also does not specify whether every island has the same number of outfit challenges. Consequently, a list of named challenge outfits would go beyond Nintendo’s published information.
That absence is important when you see claims that a particular challenge always grants a particular named set. Unless Nintendo documents that pairing, treat it as an unofficial database entry or player report rather than a confirmed catalog. The officially supported statement is narrower: island challenges can award outfits, and those rewards come in multiple designs.
A practical challenge-collection routine
- Check each island for available challenges rather than rushing only toward the next raid.
- Read the stated objective before starting so you know what completion condition to meet.
- Finish the challenge and verify the reward notification or your Style collection before moving on.
- Record the outfit’s appearance for your own collection if you are trying to track designs; Nintendo has not supplied a public checklist that does this for you.
This routine is a way to stay organized, not an extra Nintendo requirement. The only officially stated requirement is completing eligible island challenges; no currency cost, amiibo purchase, or published drop-rate system is attached to this route.
Amiibo outfits and the figures Nintendo names
Shiver, Frye, and Big Man
The three Splatoon Raiders series figures are the clearest one-to-one examples. Scanning the Shiver figure unlocks a Shiver-themed outfit, scanning Frye unlocks a Frye-themed outfit, and scanning Big Man unlocks a Big Man-themed outfit. Nintendo’s launch announcement and support documentation both describe these character-themed rewards.
These are three separate figures, not a single multipack requirement stated by Nintendo. If you want the Shiver-themed reward, use the Shiver figure; the same relationship applies to Frye and Big Man. Nintendo does not publish a price, bundle requirement, or challenge prerequisite unique to any one of the three. The shared gameplay prerequisite is the first three raids.
The figures are sold separately from the game. Splatoon Raiders itself is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, so the unlock procedure applies to the Switch 2 version and its Joy-Con 2 or Switch 2 Pro Controller NFC hardware.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Earlier Splatoon series amiibo
Nintendo also says that compatible Splatoon series amiibo unlock an additional outfit. The official wording does not provide a complete figure-by-figure table, and it does not attach a published outfit name to every older character figure. You should therefore distinguish between two claims:
- Confirmed: compatible Splatoon series amiibo can unlock outfits.
- Not established by the cited Nintendo pages: an exhaustive list mapping every older figure to a unique, named reward.
Do not assume that every figure from the wider Nintendo amiibo range works, and do not infer a precise reward from a figure’s character alone. Nintendo’s published guidance is limited to compatible Splatoon series figures and the specifically named Raiders figures.
What an amiibo purchase does and does not include
An amiibo is an optional physical accessory, sold separately from the game. Buying one does not replace the game or the controller, and the official instructions still require completing the first three raids before the scan menu appears. Nintendo’s published pages do not state a current retail price, stock level, retailer, or bundle discount, so check those details separately if you are shopping.

Nintendo Support gives a fixed sequence. The scan option is unavailable until the first three raids are complete, so reaching the title screen earlier does not make the feature appear.
- Complete the first three raids. Nintendo Support states: “You must complete the first three raids before the option to scan amiibo becomes available.”
- Return to the title screen and press ZL and ZR. This opens the game’s available title-screen controls.
- Press + to open Gear.
- Select Style, then amiibo, then Scan! The option is presented inside the Style section rather than as a separate system-level amiibo application.
- Touch the amiibo to the controller’s NFC touchpoint. On Joy-Con 2, Nintendo identifies the right control stick as the touchpoint. On the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, use the top-center area over the Nintendo Switch 2 logo.
- Complete first-use registration if prompted. The first time you scan a figure, the game asks you to register a nickname and owner for that amiibo.
- Confirm the unlock. The associated outfit is added in-game. You can return to Style later to equip a different outfit.
Finding the NFC touchpoint
The controller matters because the touch location is not the same on every Switch 2 control device. With Joy-Con 2, hold the amiibo over the right stick. With the Switch 2 Pro Controller, hold it over the upper center of the controller, on the area above the Nintendo Switch 2 logo. Keep the figure still until the game acknowledges it.
What first-time registration means
Registering a nickname and owner is an amiibo setup step, not a second purchase or a separate outfit requirement. If the game asks for those details, complete the registration and allow the scan to finish. The outfit unlock is associated with the figure after the scan succeeds.
Before you scan: a quick checklist
- Confirm that you have completed raids one, two, and three.
- Use a figure from the compatible Splatoon series, including the Shiver, Frye, or Big Man Raiders figures.
- Use the controller’s specified NFC location, not an arbitrary spot on the console.
- Have the figure available while you are in the title-screen Gear menu.
- Be ready to register a nickname and owner the first time that figure is scanned.
Changing outfits after an unlock
Outfit selection remains in the Style area. After an outfit has been earned from a challenge or unlocked with amiibo, open the Gear menu and use Style to change what your character is wearing. You do not need to rescan a figure every time you switch back to an outfit that is already in your collection.

The game’s developer interview describes the Mechanic’s clothing as deliberately varied and collectible. Hisashi Ito, identified by Nintendo as a developer, says, “The Mechanic really can make just about anything.” That comment explains the range of designs but is not a separate unlock instruction or a promise that every design comes from a particular amiibo.

Challenges versus amiibo: which route fits you?
| Question | Challenges | Amiibo |
|---|---|---|
| Do I need a physical figure? | No. The route is completed inside the game. | Yes. You need a compatible Splatoon series figure. |
| Is a purchase required? | No amiibo purchase is required. | The figures are sold separately from the game. |
| Are the rewards individually named by Nintendo? | Not in the cited announcement; rewards are described generally as outfits with varied designs. | The Shiver, Frye, and Big Man Raiders outfits are identified by character theme; older-figure mappings are not exhaustively listed. |
| When can I start? | When the relevant challenges become available during island progression. | Only after completing the first three raids. |
| What is the main uncertainty? | Nintendo has not published a complete challenge-to-outfit catalog in the cited material. | Nintendo has not published a complete model-by-model compatibility and reward table for earlier figures. |
| What is the direct cost? | No separate outfit purchase is identified; you earn the reward through play. | You must obtain a compatible figure, whose price and availability vary by retailer. |
If you want a no-cost collection path, concentrate on island challenges. If you already own a compatible figure, the amiibo route adds a direct unlock after the three-raid prerequisite. If your goal is one of the three character-themed Raiders outfits, use the matching Shiver, Frye, or Big Man figure rather than guessing from an older figure’s character.
Why a complete “every outfit” list is not currently possible from official information
The phrase “every outfit” implies a finite catalog with names, icons, prerequisites, and sources. Nintendo’s currently published pages do not supply that catalog. They establish the two methods, identify the three Raiders character outfits, and explain how to scan amiibo, but they stop short of listing every challenge reward or every compatible older amiibo reward.
That means an accurate guide must separate acquisition methods from a purported inventory list. The methods are official and reproducible. A full inventory would require additional Nintendo documentation that is not present in the cited announcement, support article, launch notice, game page, or developer interview.

Troubleshooting amiibo scans
The amiibo option is missing
Check the progression requirement first. The option does not become available until the first three raids are complete. Reaching the Gear menu before that point will not unlock the feature.
The game does not detect the figure
- Confirm that you selected Gear > Style > amiibo > Scan! from the title-screen flow.
- Place the figure on the correct NFC area: the right Joy-Con 2 stick or the top-center NFC area of the Switch 2 Pro Controller.
- Keep the figure in contact with the touchpoint until the game responds.
- Make sure the figure is a compatible Splatoon series amiibo; Nintendo’s guidance does not say that unrelated amiibo work.
The game asks for a nickname and owner
This is expected during a figure’s first scan. Register the amiibo as prompted, then allow the process to complete. Subsequent scans of that registered figure do not represent a new outfit purchase; they are simply using the figure again.
I expected a particular older figure to grant a named outfit
Nintendo has not published a complete model-by-model reward chart in the cited material. Verify the figure’s compatibility through Nintendo’s current information rather than assuming that a character likeness guarantees a specific named clothing item.

Platform and ownership details
Splatoon Raiders launched on July 23, 2026, and Nintendo lists it as exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2. The amiibo figures are separate products. The game, the controller hardware, and the figures are therefore distinct parts of the process: owning the game gives you access to challenge-earned outfits, while amiibo unlocks require a compatible figure and the post-three-raids feature unlock.
Nintendo’s official game page provides the platform and amiibo context: Splatoon Raiders – Nintendo Switch 2 Exclusive. For the exact scan procedure, use Nintendo Support’s How to Use amiibo Figures (Splatoon Raiders).
