Split Fiction is a two-player co-op adventure, so expect to coordinate movement, timing, and puzzle-solving rather than play as two independent characters. How to use this Split Fiction walkthrough
Follow the chapter sequence below to find your current level. The level names provide a route through the campaign; this guide does not supply step-by-step solutions for every main-story puzzle or encounter. Where a Side Story has a supported location or tactic, it is called out separately.

The game pairs Mio Hudson, a science-fiction writer who favors logic and survival, with Zoe Foster, a fantasy writer guided by imagination and hope. They become trapped in a simulation shaped by their stories. Hazelight describes an adventure that shifts between science-fiction and fantasy settings and changes its mechanics across platforming, stealth, puzzles, and other scenarios.

All 12 Side Stories and tips
Side Stories are optional portals into unfinished ideas from Mio and Zoe’s earlier writing. EA describes them as distinct gameplay scenarios that also add character context. The chapter placements and count below follow GameSpot’s guide; the tips are limited to details described for these particular stories.
Neon Revenge
- The Legend of the Sandfish: Dodge, dash, plan a route, and time your moves together to escape the sandfish.
- Farmlife: Mio and Zoe become pigs in a comic but perilous farm story.
- Mountain Hike: This portal is easy to miss because it has no usual audio cue. Mio enters the portable toilet; Zoe uses her grab skill to lift and throw it at the ladder hanging to the left, revealing the route.
Hopes of Spring
- Train Heist: An optional Side Story listed in this chapter; a specific solution is not established here.
- Gameshow: Pass ticking bombs between partners before the timer runs out. Later arenas add fire, electricity, and disappearing platforms.
- Collapsing Star: Hide from lethal light waves. One shield can cover both partners, so alternate whose shield is used.
Final Dawn
- Kites: Race through wind tunnels and boost circles. GameSpot advises keeping the camera angle steady to reduce disorientation.
- Moon Market: Rescue four cats to open gates. Interact with objects in the town square, including potions.
- Notebook: Zoe rewrites a sketched story’s environment as the pair pursue a prince.
Rise of the Dragon Realm
- Slopes of War: A snowboard score challenge.
- Space Escape: In zero gravity, manage oxygen together, locate oxygen tanks, and use the grappling hook.
- Birthday Cake: A childhood story with cartoon platforming in which the characters control teeth through a dentist’s office.
Side Stories not detailed in this guide
The chapter list also includes Train Heist, but the available description does not establish a specific tactic for it. The list confirms the locations of the 12 Side Stories, not every achievement condition, hidden interaction, or optional detail.
How long does Split Fiction take to finish?
GameSpot’s March 2025 estimates are about 12 hours for the main story when skipping Side Stories, and about 16 hours for a completion run including achievements. These are one outlet’s estimates, not guaranteed play times. The 12 optional Side Stories offer a broader route through the game, but the estimates do not specify an exact time for completing only those stories.

Split Fiction is built for two players. You can play locally or, with the supported setup, online. EA Help says online play requires linked EA and platform accounts. Friend’s Pass lets two people play online when one owns the full game; both players must be online, and console online play requires the relevant PlayStation Plus or Xbox Game Pass subscription.

EA Help says two people can play the first two levels for free using Friend’s Pass. If one player later buys the full game, their progress carries over.
Check platform and account requirements
Hazelight lists the game for PC, PS5, Xbox One / Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. EA Help’s specific co-op and cross-play guidance covers PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and says players need linked EA and platform accounts. Check current EA guidance for the platforms and account setup you plan to use, particularly if you want to play online across platforms.

For console online play, confirm that the required platform subscription is active. A physical copy is also an option for supported disc-based editions; make sure the edition matches your console.
