Meeting the minimum specification is intended to deliver a 1080p/30 FPS experience on Low settings. It should not be treated as a guarantee of 60 FPS or High settings.

The recommended tier is specifically for native 1440p at 60 FPS on High. EA does not list it as a 4K specification, so an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT should not be presented as an official 4K recommendation.

Can your PC run Split Fiction?
Compare your system against this checklist:
- Use a 64-bit installation of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Check that your CPU is at least around the Intel Core i5-6600K or Ryzen 5 2600X class.
- Check that your GPU is at least around the GTX 970 4GB or RX 470 4GB class and supports DirectX 12.
- Have at least 16GB of installed system RAM.
- Free at least 85GB of storage, with additional room available for updates, temporary installation files and shader caches.
- On a laptop, confirm that the game is using the dedicated GPU rather than integrated graphics.
- Check the launcher and account requirements for Steam, Epic Games Store or the EA app.
Hardware comparisons are not always straightforward. A laptop GPU with the same model number as a desktop card can perform differently, and CPU performance, VRAM, cooling, driver support and power limits all matter. Treat alternative components as roughly comparable rather than automatically equivalent.
What performance should you expect?
The official targets are:
- Minimum: native 1080p, 30 FPS, Low.
- Recommended: native 1440p, 60 FPS, High.
These are publisher specifications, not independent benchmark results. They do not establish exact frame rates for every graphics card, laptop or custom setting. The listings also do not specify an SSD as a requirement. An SSD may improve loading and general responsiveness, but it is not listed as mandatory.
Both tiers list 16GB RAM. That refers to installed system memory; Windows, browsers, launchers and overlays reduce the amount available to the game. Closing unnecessary programs can help if a 16GB system experiences memory pressure or stuttering.

DirectX 12 support is required, but DirectX 12 compatibility alone does not guarantee acceptable performance. Keep Windows and graphics drivers updated, and confirm that the game is running on the intended GPU.
Does Split Fiction require the EA app?
It depends on where you buy the game:
- Steam: The Steam version is Steam Native and does not require the EA app. An EA account is required for online features such as Friend’s Pass and cross-play.
- Epic Games Store: Epic’s listing requires the Epic Games account, an EA account, account linking, the EA app and online activation.
- EA app: The Windows version purchased directly from EA uses the EA app.
Therefore, “Split Fiction never requires the EA app” is incorrect. The accurate statement is that the Steam version does not require it, while the Epic version does. See EA’s platform and PC announcement and the Epic Games Store listing.
Internet, accounts and Friend’s Pass
EA’s current product page labels the online connection requirement as optional, while Steam lists broadband internet. The distinction is between basic access and online features: online co-op, cross-play and Friend’s Pass require internet access and the relevant platform accounts. Friend’s Pass also requires persistent internet access according to EA’s terms.

One player can own the full game while a second player joins through Friend’s Pass, subject to platform and account requirements. The joining player still needs to install the game client and use the applicable platform account. Cross-platform play requires a free EA account and may require account linking. Friend’s Pass does not mean that neither player needs to own or install the game.
Does Split Fiction run on Steam Deck?
Split Fiction is officially Steam Deck Verified, and EA says Steam Cloud supports moving progress between PC and Steam Deck. Verified is a compatibility designation, not a promise of 1080p/60 FPS performance. Results can vary with resolution, frame-rate caps, graphics settings, Proton or runtime updates and game patches.
This information applies to the Steam version and does not automatically extend to Epic Games Store or EA app installations.

If your PC meets the requirements but runs poorly
The game will not launch
- Confirm that Windows is 64-bit and updated.
- Update the graphics driver and restart the PC.
- Verify the game files through the relevant storefront.
- On a laptop, select the dedicated GPU for the game.
- Check required EA account linking for online features.
- Temporarily disable overlays and check whether security software is interfering.
Steam installations do not need the EA app simply because the game fails to launch.
Stuttering or unstable frame rates
First distinguish between different problems. Low average FPS usually indicates a rendering or hardware limitation; intermittent stutter can involve memory pressure, drivers, shader compilation, thermal throttling or background processes; network lag is an online connection problem rather than a graphics setting.
Check drivers, temperatures, background applications, available storage and the active resolution. A minimum-tier PC running above 1080p/30 FPS/Low, or a recommended-tier PC running above 1440p/60 FPS/High, is operating beyond the listed target. Split-screen rendering can also increase the workload, although EA does not publish a separate hardware tier for it.

Black screens, crashes or visual corruption
Update Windows and GPU drivers, verify the game files, disable overlays temporarily, reset custom graphics settings, and check for overheating or unstable overclocks. Also confirm that the game is not using integrated graphics. These are standard diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes.
Not enough storage
85GB is the listed free-space requirement. A drive with exactly 85GB available may still be inconvenient for installation or patching, so leave additional headroom rather than treating the number as a recommended total drive capacity.
One specification discrepancy to know about
EA’s February 2025 announcement displayed “Ryzen 5 2600K” in its minimum CPU table. That is not a standard retail AMD processor designation. The current EA product page and Steam listing specify Ryzen 5 2600X, which is the current requirement to use. The older “2600K” entry appears to be an inconsistent legacy listing or typographical error.
Bottom line
Older midrange gaming PCs around the GTX 970/RX 470 and i5-6600K/Ryzen 5 2600X class are officially aimed at 1080p/30 FPS on Low. For native 1440p/60 FPS on High, the listed target is substantially stronger: an RTX 3070 or RX 6700 XT with a modern eight-core-class CPU. In both cases, 16GB RAM, DirectX 12, 85GB of storage and 64-bit Windows 10/11 are part of the official specification. Your choice of storefront also changes whether the EA app is required.
