How the two characters fit the story
Mio and Zoe are unpublished writers whose different creative worlds collide when they are pulled into a simulation built from their stories. They have to cooperate to escape. The science-fiction and fantasy contrast is part of the premise as well as a source of friction between the protagonists.
Game director Josef Fares described friendship as a central narrative theme in an Unreal Engine interview. He discussed giving the two women distinct personalities while allowing each to shine. Their contrasting styles therefore serve the partnership at the heart of the game, rather than simply dividing the story into two genres.

Who are Kaja Chan and Elsie Bennett?
Kaja Chan
Hazelight describes Chan as a Hong Kong-Polish actor. Its selected credits include the game roles Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, Wuthering Waves, and Jurassic World Evolution 3, as well as screen work in Absentia, Bridgerton, and 1899. These are examples from the studio biography, not a complete filmography.
Elsie Bennett
Hazelight describes Bennett as a British actor. Its selected game credits include Hitman 3, Control, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint, and Subnautica: Below Zero; her screen credits include an appearance in Foundation. These, too, are selected credits rather than a full list of her work.

Did the actors also perform motion capture?
The roles involved more than recorded dialogue. An April 2025 interview with Chan and Bennett discusses their motion-capture sessions, including dialogue and more physical scenes involving falls and fights. An IMDb credit listing labels Bennett as Zoe and Chan as Mio/Dark Mio, with voice and motion-capture credits. IMDb is secondary; Hazelight’s official page is the clearest source for who plays the two leads.

In EA’s December 12, 2024 announcement, Fares called Split Fiction “definitely our most epic co-op adventure yet.” That is the game director’s promotional description, not an independent assessment. EA announced the game for PS5, among its listed platforms.
