Was Arena Reloaded a new game or a rename?
1047 Games described Arena Reloaded as an evolution of Splitgate 2, not a separate sequel. The official FAQ said the existing Splitgate 2 application would update and be replaced by Arena Reloaded when the relaunch arrived on December 17, 2025. Read the official Arena Reloaded FAQ.
Steam still displays May 22, 2025 as the game’s release date. That date belongs to the earlier Splitgate 2 listing; it is not the Arena Reloaded relaunch date. The Steam listing and the official relaunch FAQ refer to different points in the game’s history.
What did Arena Reloaded change?
1047 Games said it revisited the game in response to player feedback and expectations for a modern FPS, aiming to correct systems that missed expectations and recenter the experience on arena-shooter fans. The listed changes show how that design pivot worked; they are evidence of what the studio changed, not proof that players broadly approved of the result. Fewer abilities and more even starts
The relaunch removed Factions, abilities, and selected equipment. Classic Arena offered equal starts and fixed loadouts: every player began with an Assault Rifle and Carbine. That combination moved the emphasis away from faction- or ability-specific advantages and toward familiar arena combat.
More ways to use—and counter—portals
Map pickups added Legendary Weapons and Powerups. Portal Overloading let a player place both portals on one wall to block its use, while an EMP Grenade temporarily cleared portals from a wall. Portal Trails were added to make it easier to follow movement through portals.

Reworked combat feel
1047 Games said it improved controller feel and corrected aim acceleration, increased time to kill slightly, reworked visual recoil, and updated combat audio and visual effects. These are changes the developer listed; the available materials do not provide a controlled before-and-after test of how they affected play.
New mode selection and queueing rules
Arena Reloaded introduced Mode Select and multi-mode queueing. At launch, players had to select at least three modes, a requirement the developer said was intended to keep playlist populations healthy. 1047 Games said it would monitor the rule and might loosen it; the launch overview does not establish whether or when it did so.

Rebuilt progression and Ranked
Progression was reorganized around Rookie and Challenger career levels. Ranked was revised to include placement matches and leaderboards.
What content arrived with the redesign?
In a support FAQ updated January 22, 2026, 1047 Games described five new arenas and six fully redesigned arenas, along with three new primary weapons and one new power weapon. The same FAQ says Update 2.2 added Arena Royale, a 24-player hybrid of arena and battle royale. See the official Arena Reloaded support FAQ.
Did Arena Reloaded fix Splitgate 2?
It made a clear design correction: Factions and abilities were removed, Classic Arena provided equal starts with fixed weapons, and portal counterplay, progression, and combat systems were revised. That supports calling Arena Reloaded 1047 Games’ attempt to address the direction of Splitgate 2. It does not establish that the game’s reputation or commercial health recovered. The relaunch materials do not provide independent evidence that players broadly accepted the changes, and a redesign’s intentions should not be mistaken for a measured outcome.

As of October 2026, the available service-status reporting says dedicated servers and matchmaking had ended on September 3, 2026. PC Gamer reported on August 31, citing a 1047 Games Steam update, that players could still host matches and play together peer to peer. The report does not establish how easy it is to find other players or whether a given platform’s current setup supports a usable session, so check current in-game and community information before planning a match. Dedicated matchmaking and player-hosted peer-to-peer games are not equivalent: the former connects players through the game’s official service, while the latter depends on players arranging and hosting sessions. PC Gamer quoted 1047 Games explaining the decision: “The reality is that neither game is generating enough revenue to support the ongoing cost of dedicated servers.”
Where could you play it, and what PC does it require?
The official FAQ listed Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. It also listed Steam Deck play through Proton and confirmed controller support. Those published platform details do not mean official matchmaking is still operating after the reported September 2026 shutdown.
1047 Games published these PC requirements in its FAQ. They are official specifications, not independent performance-test results.

What the redesign can—and cannot—tell you
Arena Reloaded’s design changes are concrete: the game shifted away from Factions and abilities and toward equal starts, arena combat, portal counterplay, and revised progression. Whether that was a successful fix depends on what “fixed” means. It describes the direction 1047 Games took; it does not prove a reception turnaround. And by October 2026, the reported end of matchmaking and dedicated servers meant service availability was a separate, practical concern for anyone hoping to jump into a public match.
