If Squad is crashing on your PC, start by updating the game and matching the next step to what you see: a mod-related launch failure, an Easy Anti-Cheat or Epic Online Services error, a settings problem, or a memory warning. These eight checks are targeted troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed cures. Change one thing at a time so you can tell what helps.
1. Relaunch Squad and check for a current hotfix
Close Squad and relaunch it so Steam can download any pending update. Offworld Industries’ September 17, 2026 version 10.5.6 hotfix notes specifically ask players to relaunch for the new build. The hotfix fixes a replay-generation crash and includes other crash-protection improvements.
Check Offworld Industries’ current release notes as well; the 10.5.6 notes are dated, and a newer build may have superseded them. If your crash began after an update, note the version and when the crash happens before trying other changes.
2. If the crash happens at launch, test without mods
Mods are a relevant first check if Squad will not start or crashes during launch. In September 2026, Offworld said its 10.5.3 hotfix addressed client crashes with mods and compatibility issues for Update 10.5, including some crashes at startup involving mods with precompiled shader caches. That means a mod issue may also be affected by the game build, not just by your local files.

- Unsubscribe from Squad mods in Steam Workshop and try launching the game.
- If the crash continues and you are comfortable removing downloaded Workshop content, close Steam and remove the local
workshopcontent393380folder. This deletes downloaded Squad Workshop files; it is not a general-purpose fix for every crash. - Launch Squad again. If it works, reinstall mods individually, testing after each one to identify a possible conflict.
The folder-removal procedure comes from Offworld Industries’ May 8, 2020 startup-crash guidance. Treat it as older, targeted advice: the later 10.5.3 notes show the mod-crash landscape has changed.
3. Repair Easy Anti-Cheat only when the error names it
If the displayed error is specifically about Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC), use Offworld’s Squad EAC troubleshooting instructions. The listed options include repairing or reinstalling EAC, verifying Squad’s game files, and checking for conflicting Cheat Engine software. Follow the source’s procedure for the error you received rather than reinstalling anti-cheat as a routine crash fix.

Epic’s general EAC guidance also recommends checking EAC connectivity, Windows updates, current Visual C++ Redistributables, system-file integrity, background programs that may interfere, and game files. Those are general EAC checks, not Squad-specific diagnoses.
4. Use the EOS procedure only for an Epic Online Services error
If the message identifies Epic Online Services (EOS), follow Offworld Industries’ EOS reinstall instructions. Offworld presents this as a response to EOS issues; it is not a blanket fix for crashes that show no EOS error.

5. Clear cached Squad data if settings or cache may be corrupted
Offworld’s cache-clearing guidance offers an in-game clear-cache option or removal of the local AppData SquadGame folder. Clearing this data resets configuration, including keybinds and video settings, so use it only if you are prepared to set them again. If you delete the folder, close the game first.
6. Check the Discord-specific guidance if Discord is implicated
If Squad fails to launch in a situation tied to Discord, consult Offworld Industries’ startup-crash article for its Discord guidance. The article does not identify a specific Discord setting, so do not guess at a toggle; follow the current instructions there and test the launch again.

7. For a memory error, check pagefile configuration and system requirements
Pagefile advice is dated and specific to memory errors
If Squad explicitly reports a memory or video-memory error, Offworld Industries’ September 14, 2021 support article recommends making sure the Windows pagefile is enabled and suggests 10 GB. This is older guidance, not a current universal Windows setting or a guaranteed fix. Avoid changing unrelated memory settings based only on a generic crash.
Compare your PC with Steam’s listed requirements
Steam’s Squad store listing, accessed October 8, 2026, gives these requirements. They are compatibility specifications, not proof that a below-spec component caused a particular crash.

Use the Steam Squad listing to check the current requirements. Compare your actual system before considering hardware changes; these specifications alone cannot diagnose an individual crash.
8. If Squad still crashes, send support the Saved logs
When the targeted checks do not resolve the problem, collect the logs so support can investigate the specific failure. Offworld Industries’ support instructions locate them in C:UsersYourUsernameAppdataLocalSquadGame and ask you to zip the Saved folder before sending it to support. Replace YourUsername with your Windows account folder name.
