The preview is free but time-limited: Offworld Industries announced access from October 16 through October 25, 2026, and says players must enlist even though the event is open to all.
Work through the account, Store, library, licence, system-software and download checks below. A country-specific Store listing or a temporary service problem can also explain why no invite or download button appears.

What the Squad PS5 alpha actually is
This is a free PlayStation 5 alpha preview, not the full console release of Squad. The official announcement describes it as open to all PlayStation 5 owners, but access is still tied to an enlistment step. In other words, “open to all” does not mean the preview automatically appears in every PSN library.
The PlayStation Store listing uses several labels that can make the item easy to miss. Search for the product name Squad, then choose the edition marked PS5 Alpha Preview. The listing labels it Free Beta, supports PS5 and PS5 Pro, includes DualSense vibration, and advertises up to 99 online players in 50-versus-50 combined-arms battles.

These labels describe the preview listing, not a permanent entitlement. PlayStation’s beta guidance says participation is time-limited and does not guarantee continued access to the game or its content after the beta ends.
Use this order to make the alpha appear
Start with the entitlement path before changing console settings. It separates a missing invitation from a broken download and avoids rebuilding the database when the account has simply not enlisted.
- Open the official Squad console announcement. Follow its enlist link and sign in with the PSN account that is supposed to play the preview. If a browser is signed in to a different PSN account, the entitlement can be attached to the wrong profile.
- Search the Store for the exact edition. On the PS5, search for Squad and select PS5 Alpha Preview, rather than a similarly named product page. The item may be easier to find from the game’s page than from a generic “alpha” search.
- Open the same listing in the PS App. If the console Store search is empty, use the PS App while signed in to the same PSN account. Storefront visibility can differ by country and between the web, app and console views.
- Check the account and library. Confirm that you are using the account that enlisted, review transaction or entitlement history where relevant, and look in the hidden-games area of the library. A hidden item can look identical to an unowned item in a normal search.
- Repair account-level access. In PS5 settings, verify Console Sharing and Offline Play for the account that owns the entitlement, then use the Restore Licences command. These checks are part of PlayStation’s own missing-content guidance.
- Update and check the service. Install the latest PS5 system software. Check the PlayStation Status page before assuming the listing or download is permanently unavailable; an account or Store service interruption can hide an otherwise valid item.
- Use Safe Mode only if the listing remains absent. Shut down the PS5, start it in Safe Mode, and try Clear Cache first. If the problem persists, use Rebuild Database. These options address local index problems that can prevent library content from displaying.
- Restart a stalled download. Open Downloads/Uploads, pause the Squad download and resume it. If it still fails, cancel and delete that download, open Game Library, locate Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview, and start the download again.
After each account or licence change, return to the same Store listing rather than relying on an old notification. The listing is the clearest test of whether the PSN account can claim the preview.

Why a search for “alpha” may fail
The Store item is named Squad, with PS5 Alpha Preview identifying the edition. Searching only for “PS5 alpha,” “Squad alpha,” or “beta” can return no result, a video, or a different product page. Search for the base title first and inspect the edition selector or product subtitle.

Check the platform filter
The preview is a PS5 product. If the Store is filtering for PS4 games, add-ons or wish-list results, change the filter to games for PS5 and search again. The listing itself identifies PS5 and PS5 Pro support, so a PS5 account should not need a separate PS4 download.
Why the console, web Store and PS App can disagree
Storefront catalogs are localized. A listing can be visible in one country or interface while absent from another, and a browser page can show a different action from the console Store. Treat a missing web result as a discovery problem first: check the signed-in account, search the exact product name on the console, and then try the PS App.
The PS App handoff: useful, but unofficial
A Reddit user reported that opening the alpha website while already signed in to the PS App and selecting the download action handed the download to the app, even when the web Store view did not show the item. This is a community workaround, not a guaranteed PlayStation or Offworld Industries procedure.

- Open the official alpha page or announcement from the phone.
- Select the download or Store action and allow it to hand off to the PS App.
- Check the PS5’s Downloads/Uploads queue and the game library for the preview.
If the handoff produces no queue entry, do not repeatedly tap the button. Return to the exact Store listing and continue with the account, licence and region checks. The anecdotal method cannot override an unavailable country listing or an account that has not enlisted.

When the invitation or entitlement is missing
Wrong PSN account
The enlistment is associated with the account used during sign-in. Family members can therefore see different results on the same console. Sign out of the browser or app, sign back in to the intended PSN account, and repeat the enlistment route. On the console, switch to that same user before searching the Store.
Hidden game or library filter
PlayStation’s support guidance specifically recommends checking hidden games. Open the library’s hidden-content area and remove the preview from hidden items if it appears there. Also clear filters that show only installed games, PS4 games or purchased items; a free preview may not appear in a restricted view.
Console Sharing and Offline Play
If the account owns the entitlement but another user is trying to launch it, verify the PS5 account’s Console Sharing and Offline Play setting. This setting controls whether other users on that console can use the account’s games and benefits. It does not create an entitlement for an account that never enlisted.

Restore licences
Use Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licences. Restoring licences refreshes the console’s record of digital products; it does not delete installed games or change the PSN account. After it completes, search for Squad — PS5 Alpha Preview again and check Game Library.

When the item is visible but the download will not start
Pause and resume
Open Downloads/Uploads, highlight the Squad preview, choose pause, wait briefly, and select resume. This is the least disruptive recovery step for a queue that has stopped progressing.
Cancel, delete and start again
If resuming does not work, cancel and delete the stalled download. Then open Game Library, find the preview, and start a fresh download from its product entry. This removes the incomplete local transfer while preserving the account entitlement.
Check system software and service status before repeating
Install any pending PS5 system-software update and check the PlayStation Status page. A Store or network service incident can make repeated retries fail in the same place. If services are operational and the queue repeatedly stalls, the Safe Mode cache and database options are the next console-side checks.
Network symptoms versus entitlement symptoms
A visible product with a download that starts and stops points toward queue, network or service conditions. A product that never appears for the signed-in account points toward enlistment, region, library visibility or licensing. Keeping those cases separate prevents a database rebuild from being used to solve an account problem.

Region and country availability
Store visibility can vary by country. A Reddit discussion includes a report that the alpha was unavailable in Germany, but no authoritative country list was identified in the official announcement or Store information. Treat that report as anecdotal rather than proof of a Germany-wide restriction.
To test a regional explanation, check the local PlayStation Store while signed in to the account that enlisted. If the exact edition is absent on both the console and PS App, confirm the account’s country and contact PlayStation Support. Do not create a different-country account to bypass the issue: regional accounts can have separate libraries, payment rules and entitlements, which makes diagnosis harder.

What access lasts, and what it does not promise
The preview has a fixed event window. A successful enlistment or download does not turn the alpha into a permanent copy of Squad, and it does not guarantee access to later builds or the full console game. PlayStation’s beta guidance explicitly says that participation can end with the beta and does not guarantee continued access to the game or content afterward.

Because the event is time-limited, a missing listing near the end of the window can be a timing issue rather than a damaged console. If the Store item is present and the download works, launch the preview before the event closes. If the item disappears after the announced window, normal licence repairs cannot extend the event.
When to contact support
Contact PlayStation Support after you have confirmed the intended PSN account, completed enlistment, searched for the exact edition, checked hidden games, restored licences, updated the PS5, reviewed service status and tried the download restart sequence. Include the console region, PSN account country, the exact Store wording you see, and whether the item appears in the PS App. Those details distinguish an entitlement or regional issue from a local download failure.
For an account-specific question about enlistment, use the support route associated with the official Squad announcement or Offworld Industries. For Store, licence, account, system software or Safe Mode problems, PlayStation Support is the appropriate channel. Community reports can suggest workarounds, but they cannot confirm eligibility or country availability.
