Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If your YouTube live stream disconnects at night, the timing is a clue to measure—not proof that your Indian broadband provider is congested or throttling you. First identify which link fails: encoder to SRS, SRS to YouTube, or YouTube’s ingest/stream health. Compare logs and network measurements from a failure with a stable period before changing settings.
This guide is for streams relayed through SRS. If your encoder publishes directly to YouTube, skip the SRS checks and diagnose the encoder-to-YouTube connection instead.
Start by mapping the stream path
A relayed stream has two separate network legs. The encoder publishes to SRS; SRS then forwards the stream to YouTube. SRS documents both client publishing into the server and server-side forwarding to another RTMP server. SRS RTMP documentation
- Write down whether the encoder publishes directly to YouTube or to an SRS server.
- If using SRS, record the configured outbound YouTube target, application path, and the credentials or stream key used for that forward.
- Determine whether the encoder continues publishing to SRS during the interruption, and whether SRS continues forwarding to YouTube.
This distinction matters: an encoder-to-SRS failure points toward the source or its route to SRS; a stable publish paired with a failed forward points toward SRS, its outbound route, or the YouTube connection.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Capture evidence during a failure
Before restarting services or changing encoder settings, note the exact UTC time and duration. Collect the YouTube stream-health message, encoder log, SRS log, and whether each connection closes or reconnects. Compare that failure window with a stable period, ideally at a similar time of day.
- Record which connection closes first: encoder-to-SRS or SRS-to-YouTube.
- Note whether reconnection succeeds automatically and how long it takes.
- Save the precise YouTube health wording; it can distinguish an ingest/configuration problem from a loss of incoming video.
- Compare upload capacity, latency, and packet loss during the affected period with a stable-period measurement.
“It happens at night” by itself cannot identify the cause. There is no established India-wide rate for this symptom, or evidence here identifying a particular Indian ISP, city, access technology, route, or nighttime incident as responsible.

| Video format | YouTube-recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps |
These are platform recommendations, not a measurement of your broadband’s sustained upload capacity. Measure the connection under the conditions when the stream drops; do not assume a plan’s advertised speed or a daytime test proves the nighttime path can sustain the encoder’s bitrate. YouTube’s guidance says, “We recommend running a speed test to test your upload bitrate.”
Verify rate control and keyframes
YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Confirm the encoder’s actual output settings rather than relying only on a saved preset. A bitrate that is too high or too low, an unsuitable frame rate, or GOP/keyframe issues may show up as a stream-health warning rather than a simple network disconnect. YouTube encoder guidance and YouTube Live API health messages
Read the health message before changing settings
YouTube’s Live API health categories include bitrate too high or low, frame-rate and GOP/keyframe issues, codec problems, and insufficient incoming video to maintain smooth streaming. Use the specific message to choose what to investigate; changing bitrate, resolution, and frame rate all at once makes it harder to identify the fault. YouTube Live API stream health

Check RTMPS connection details
If the outbound connection uses RTMPS, verify the complete connection setup: the protocol, valid ingest endpoint and application name, TLS, port 443, and server hostname for SNI authentication. An endpoint or application-path mismatch can look like a connection interruption even when the underlying broadband link is working. YouTube RTMPS ingestion guide
Diagnose each SRS leg separately
If encoder-to-SRS drops
Check the encoder’s publish log and the SRS ingest log for the first disconnect. Compare the source computer’s local connection and broadband measurements during the failure with a stable period. If the encoder uses Wi-Fi, a temporary Ethernet test can help isolate the local wireless segment; it cannot establish or fix a fault in the ISP route, SRS host, or YouTube ingest.

Investigate the SRS host’s outbound route, service/process and resource logs, configured target URL and credentials, and its reconnect behavior. Confirm whether SRS keeps receiving the encoder stream while the forward is interrupted; that observation helps separate an outbound forwarding issue from a source-side failure.

Check the version of SRS actually deployed before applying configuration advice. The cited RTMP page is labeled SRS version 7.0 Unstable, while the forwarding page available in the documentation is v5, so directives should not be assumed identical across versions. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Test the local network and broadband path
Run repeated upload, latency, and packet-loss observations during the times the failure occurs, then compare them with a stable period. Keep the test times alongside the encoder and SRS logs so you can correlate a change in network conditions with a particular connection closing.
- If the encoder is on Wi-Fi, temporarily test over Ethernet to see whether the local wireless segment is involved.
- If the encoder-to-SRS leg is stable but the forward fails, focus measurements and logs on the SRS host’s outbound path instead of the encoder’s home Wi-Fi.
- If the connection measurements remain stable while YouTube reports a bitrate, codec, frame-rate, or keyframe warning, address that specific stream-health category.

Common symptoms and the next check
| What you observe | Next check |
|---|---|
| Encoder publish to SRS ends first | Compare encoder and SRS ingest logs; measure the source’s local link and broadband path at the failure time. |
| Encoder remains publishing, but SRS forward ends | Inspect SRS outbound route, target URL and credentials, process/resource logs, and reconnect behavior. |
| YouTube reports bitrate too high or too low | Compare configured bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for the actual codec, resolution, and frame rate; measure upload capacity during the failure window. |
| YouTube reports frame-rate, GOP/keyframe, or codec trouble | Check the encoder’s actual output format, codec, frame rate, and keyframe interval against the relevant YouTube guidance. |
| YouTube reports insufficient incoming video | Correlate the health message with encoder/SRS logs and measurements on the connection leg that feeds YouTube. |
| Failure happens on Wi-Fi but not in a temporary wired comparison | Investigate the local wireless segment; do not infer that a cable would fix an ISP, relay-host, or YouTube-ingest fault. |
Or let it run in the cloud
