For a direct YouTube stream, get the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then enter them in your encoder’s streaming settings. SRS does not issue YouTube’s key: it is a separate media server that can sit between an encoder and YouTube when you configure a relay.
Get your YouTube stream URL and key
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live. Open the Stream tab and create a stream if this is your first one; otherwise use the loaded stream settings. YouTube says first-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours, so do not assume an account can go live immediately. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this workflow.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. These are YouTube’s ingest details. Keep the key private: it is a channel streaming credential. Paste it only into the encoder you intend to use, and do not publish or share it.
- Choose RTMPS when supported. In Live Control Room, use the lock control to reveal and copy the RTMPS URL if the interface initially shows ordinary RTMP. Confirm your encoder supports RTMPS. YouTube describes RTMPS as a secure extension to RTMP and recommends it for encrypted transport. If connection troubleshooting requires it, verify the protocol and server in the URL and follow YouTube’s guidance about port 443. YouTube’s RTMPS instructions explain the secure URL and connection.
Enter the key in your encoder and go live
- Open the encoder’s streaming or broadcast settings. If it offers a YouTube preset, select it and sign in or provide the requested connection details.
- If there is no YouTube preset, choose a custom RTMP/RTMPS service. Paste YouTube’s server URL into the server or RTMP server field and paste the YouTube key into the Stream Key field. Do not put an SRS stream name in this field.
- Start streaming from the encoder. Check the preview and connection state in Live Control Room. For a scheduled stream, wait for the preview and then select Go live when that control is available.
Encoder settings YouTube recommends
Use these as YouTube-published guidance, not a universal preset. The resolution, frame rate, codec and bitrate you can select depend on your encoder, hardware and ingest setup. See YouTube’s recommended live encoder settings and verify that your encoder supports the options you choose.
- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframe interval: Set two seconds; YouTube’s stated maximum interval is four seconds.
- Video codec and frame rate: YouTube’s settings page lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1, with support guidance up to 60 fps. Choose only a codec and frame rate your encoder and selected ingest path support.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3 as audio choices in its published settings.
How SRS fits into a YouTube setup
SRS is optional. It is a media server, not the source of YouTube’s stream key. The SRS project describes support for protocols including RTMP, WebRTC, HLS, HTTP-FLV and SRT. Its publishing examples show an encoder sending to an SRS RTMP endpoint; that address identifies a stream on the SRS server, not a YouTube credential. The versioned SRS v4 guide, for example, uses rtmp://localhost/live/livestream as an example publishing address. The SRS project README and SRS v4 getting-started guide provide project context and examples.
Direct encoder-to-YouTube
For the simplest setup, send the encoder directly to YouTube using the server URL and key from Live Control Room. There is one publishing connection to configure and diagnose: the encoder-to-YouTube link.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Encoder-to-SRS, then SRS-to-YouTube
Use this architecture only if you need SRS as an intermediate media-server layer. Configure the encoder to publish to SRS, then separately configure SRS to forward or relay the stream to YouTube using YouTube’s server URL and key. The SRS publishing example alone does not document a complete, current SRS-to-YouTube forwarding configuration, so consult the current SRS documentation for relay details rather than treating the local publishing address as a complete recipe. This arrangement adds another connection to configure and troubleshoot: encoder-to-SRS and SRS-to-YouTube. If you use RTMPS on the YouTube leg, confirm that the relay setup supports it and is configured correctly.
What Indian creators should check
YouTube’s documented encoder workflow does not establish separate India-only stream-key steps or eligibility rules. Use the Live Control Room and the prompts on your own account to confirm whether live streaming is available. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube also notes different default stream privacy settings for users aged 13–17 and users 18 or older; those are general account settings, not India-specific instructions.

Common setup problems and fixes
- You cannot go live yet: If this is the first live stream on the account, activation may still be pending; YouTube says it can take up to 24 hours. Check Live Control Room and account prompts.
- The encoder connects to SRS but YouTube gets no stream: Publishing into SRS does not by itself forward the stream to YouTube. Check that SRS has a separate forwarding/relay configuration using YouTube’s ingest details.
- The encoder rejects the secure URL: Confirm that it supports RTMPS and that you copied the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room using the lock control. Check the protocol and server, and consult YouTube’s port 443 troubleshooting guidance if needed.
- YouTube does not show an incoming preview: Confirm that the encoder is running, that its server URL and key came from the intended YouTube stream, and that each value is in the correct field. For an SRS setup, determine whether the failure is on the encoder-to-SRS or SRS-to-YouTube leg.
- You have a preview but the scheduled broadcast has not started: Select Go live in Live Control Room when prompted.
- The stream behaves differently from the suggested settings: Check which codecs and rates your encoder and hardware actually support, then compare them with YouTube’s current published recommendations rather than assuming every setting is available in every setup.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded videos playing on a YouTube channel around the clock, StreamNeo is a cloud option rather than an SRS configuration. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera, and it streams to YouTube only.
- It keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home.
- Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot.
- It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card required (one free day per account).
