The x86 name indicates a 32-bit component. It may appear under Program Files (x86) even when Windows itself is 64-bit. A 64-bit version of Windows can run 32-bit applications through its compatibility layer, but the application still needs its 32-bit files and dependencies.

1. Preserve your designs and library
Before uninstalling:
- Open Silhouette Studio if it still starts.

- Copy any locally stored design folders to another drive or a known folder.
- Do not delete application data unless Silhouette support specifically instructs you to do so.

2. Uninstall the application
- Press Windows key + I.
- Select Apps.
- On Windows 11, choose Installed apps. On Windows 10, choose Apps & features.
- Find Silhouette Studio.
- Select the three-dot menu or the application entry.
- Choose Uninstall.
- Approve the prompts and restart Windows.
If the normal uninstaller fails, try Control Panel:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
appwiz.cpl. - Press Enter.
- Select Silhouette Studio.
- Choose Uninstall.
Do not manually remove unrelated Windows folders or registry entries.
3. Download a fresh official installer
Use Silhouette America’s official Silhouette Studio download page. Select the Windows download appropriate for your system and review the listed system requirements or legacy-version options if you use older hardware or an older workflow.

After downloading:
- Right-click the installer.
- Select Properties.
- If an Unblock checkbox appears on the General tab, select it and choose Apply.
- Right-click the installer again.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Complete the installation.
- Restart Windows before launching Silhouette Studio.
What success looks like
Silhouette Studio opens without the DLL message, or the installer completes without the “failed to register” message. The file should be recreated inside the Silhouette Studio installation directory, not in a Windows system folder.
If the same error returns immediately, continue with the Visual C++ repair below.
Fix 2: Repair the 32-bit Visual C++ runtime
Time needed: 5 to 15 minutes

Fix 3: Check antivirus quarantine
Time needed: 5 to 10 minutes
Security software can remove or block an application file during installation. Check whether that happened before repeatedly reinstalling.
- Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Choose Protection history.
- Review recent detections.
- Look for a detection involving the Silhouette Studio installation directory.
- Expand the alert and inspect the full path.
Restore a quarantined file only when all of these conditions are true:
- The path is clearly inside the official Silhouette Studio installation directory.
- The installer came from Silhouette America.
- The security alert does not indicate a broader compromise.
- You have confirmed that the installer is genuine.
If the file is repeatedly quarantined, do not keep restoring it blindly. Run a full security scan, remove the questionable installation, and download a clean installer from the official source.

Fix 5: Check permissions and the installer environment
Time needed: 10 to 20 minutes
A damaged download, blocked installer, or user-profile problem can cause registration failures.
Try these steps:
- Delete the current Silhouette installer.
- Download it again from the official Silhouette America source.
- Save it to the Desktop.
- Right-click it and select Run as administrator.
- Temporarily disconnect unnecessary external devices.
- Confirm that the system drive has free space.
- If the failure affects only one Windows account, test the installer from a new local administrator account.
