S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl Patch 1.2 was a wide-ranging maintenance and gameplay update, not a single-feature release. GSC Game World described it as bringing over 1,700 fixes and improvements, spanning NPC and mutant behavior, balance, quests, locations, controls, interface, audio and cutscenes. Here are the changes that matter most, and what the headline count does—and does not—mean.

What does “over 1,700 fixes” mean?

GSC’s official Patch 1.2 notes describe the update as containing “Over 1700 fixes and improvements to all aspects of the game.” That is the publisher’s headline count for the update, not an independently verified tally or a claim that it added 1,700 major features. Many entries address smaller issues across a broad range of systems. Read GSC’s full Patch 1.2 notes for the complete list.

What changed in Patch 1.2?

NPC behavior and combat

The notes describe adjustments to NPC behavior, including approaching and looting corpses, choosing weapons more effectively, and healing wounded friendly NPCs. GSC also lists fixes involving NPC spawning, navigation, stealth detection and combat behavior. These are changes to how encounters play out; the notes do not establish a measured improvement to frame rate or overall performance.

Mutants and encounters

One notable addition is a roar ability for the Controller. The notes also cover mutant combat and navigation fixes and changes to the frequency of some encounters. Windows Central highlighted the Controller’s roar and more frequent evasive jumps by blind dogs as visible examples of the update’s mutant-related changes. See Windows Central’s Patch 1.2 coverage.

Equipment and radiation balance

Patch 1.2 adjusted how equipment appears: low- and mid-tier armor became more likely to spawn, while top-tier armor became less likely. GSC also says the chance of high-tier weapons appearing early was reduced. Radiation damage was increased based on accumulated radiation points, so the change concerns radiation exposure and its effects rather than a general damage adjustment.

Quests and progression

The official notes list fixes for missing characters, blocked interactions, quest objectives and other progression problems. These are the changes most relevant if a quest or interaction was preventing progress; the full notes specify the individual cases.

Regions, locations and presentation

GSC says the regions and locations section includes over 450 improvements. It covers level design, terrain, lighting, weather, foliage and collision work. That figure belongs to the locations section of Patch 1.2; it is not a separate update or a count of new areas.

Interface, controls and audio

The update also addresses map and HUD issues, gamepad interactions and keybinding options. The notes include a control fix for the MSI Claw A1M and integrations for Razer Chroma and Sensa. GSC reports almost 100 fixes each for audio, cutscenes and voice-over—not an exact combined total.

When did Patch 1.2 release?

Windows Central’s contemporaneous coverage gives February 13, 2025, as the Patch 1.2 release date. GSC’s current support articles for Patch 1.2 and 1.2.1 display March 10, 2025 timestamps, but those page timestamps should not be treated as the game’s release date. The sources do not explain the discrepancy. GSC’s Patch 1.2 support article and its Patch 1.2.1 support article display those dates.

What followed Patch 1.2?

Patch 1.2.1 followed with additional crash fixes, including issues involving loading saves and anomalies, according to GSC’s notes and Windows Central’s updated coverage. Patch 1.2 is now a historical update, not the game’s current version: GSC’s patch archive lists later releases, including 1.7.1 and 2.0. For present-day version details, check GSC’s current patch notes.
