Yes. Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) announced on June 2, 2026, that Star Citizen had passed $1 billion in lifetime community funding after more than 12 years of support. The announcement confirms the milestone, but gives no exact crossing-day total or backer count. That cumulative figure is also distinct from CIG’s annual income and is not an audited standalone development budget for Star Citizen.
What the $1 billion figure counts
CIG’s milestone announcement describes the figure as “lifetime funding from our community.” The company’s financial commentary explains that its public funding-counter line, “Pledges / Sales (from Counter),” represents net receipts from backers and customers. CIG says most of its 2024 counter sales came from starter packs granting access to the Star Citizen alpha, along with ships and digital items delivered and playable in the game; a smaller portion came from concept-ship pledges.
The figure is therefore best understood as a cumulative community-funding milestone, not as a complete account of every kind of income CIG receives. The public tracker describes Star Citizen as a crowd-funded project and says pledged money goes directly to development, but the counter and the company’s accounting statements are different measures.
Why $1 billion is not the same as CIG’s total income
CIG reports subscriptions and other income separately from the funding-counter receipts. Its 2023 financial explanation also notes that exchange differences and small items such as shipping charges on physical goods sit outside the counter, with differences reflected in the final income line.

| Measure | Amount | What it represents |
|---|---|---|
| Pledges / sales from the counter | $116.3 million | CIG’s counter income for its 2024 accounting year. |
| Subscription income | $7.3 million | CIG’s separately reported subscription income for its 2024 accounting year. |
| Other income | $23.0 million | CIG’s 2024 accounting-year category, including development incentives, partnership and hardware/software vendor income, and Turbulent-related income. |
| Total income | $146.6 million | CIG’s total income for its 2024 accounting year, combining the reported categories. |
These are annual accounting figures for 2024; the $1 billion announcement is a cumulative community-funding milestone announced in 2026. They should not be added together or treated as interchangeable. CIG’s 2024 commentary also said its principal product remained in pre-alpha during that accounting year.

CIG develops both Star Citizen and Squadron 42, but the milestone announcement does not provide a project-by-project allocation of the community funding. It does not establish how much of the $1 billion was spent on either game, nor does it present the total as an audited, standalone Star Citizen budget. The company’s shared development of the two projects is not a breakdown of their funding.
