Star Citizen crossed $1 billion in player funding on May 24, 2026, so the milestone is no longer merely in sight. The exact total continues to change; check Roberts Space Industries’ live Funding Stats counter for the current figure.
How much money has Star Citizen raised?
Star Citizen passed the $1 billion player-funding threshold on May 24, 2026, according to PC Gamer’s report published the following day, which linked to the official RSI tracker. The precise live counter value is not established here; because it changes, the RSI Funding Stats page is the place to check for a current tally.
The counter tracks player and customer receipts, not every source of company income and not a direct measure of how much development has cost. Cloud Imperium’s 2024 financial commentary says the “Pledges / Sales (from Counter)” line is taken from the daily funding counter and represents net receipts from backers and customers. It reported $116.3 million in that line, against $146.6 million in total income for 2024. Those are figures for that year, not the current counter total or lifetime company income. Cloud Imperium’s 2024 financial commentary explains the distinction.
What does the funding counter represent?
Cloud Imperium says the vast majority of counter-derived sales came from starter packs, which provide access to Star Citizen’s alpha along with ships and digital items. A smaller portion came from concept-ship pledges, which included a loaner ship for use in the alpha. The counter therefore reflects purchases and pledges tied to the game, rather than a simple tally of donations. The company’s financial commentary describes these receipts.

What can players access now?
Star Citizen’s live environment is accessible with an RSI account and a game package, according to the company’s getting-started checklist. Squadron 42 is a separate single-player game; RSI’s April 2026 checklist said it remained in development and was not yet available. That status is specific to the checklist’s date.
Published PC requirements
RSI’s requirements page, updated September 23, 2026, lists 16 GB of memory and a 150+ GB SSD as minimum specifications. Recommended specifications include 32 GB of memory and a 150+ GB SSD. These are the published requirements on that date, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate: RSI cautions that performance depends on factors such as location, server population, background applications, and network conditions. Check the current system requirements page before making a hardware decision, since they may change.
