Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic has no official release date or release window in the available announcements. Reporting described it as being in very early development, making a wait of several years a reasonable expectation—but not a confirmed schedule. Director Casey Hudson was reported to expect the game before 2030, without naming a launch year.
Has Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic announced a release date?

GameSpot characterized the project as being at a very early stage when it reported on the announcement. That is a dated description, not a current development update or a publisher schedule. It supports the cautious expectation of a long wait, but cannot establish how many years remain.
What does “before 2030” mean?
GameSpot reported that Hudson responded to rumors suggesting the game would not arrive until 2030 by saying it would be out before then. This sets a broad expectation attributed to the director; it does not identify a particular year, month, or date. It should not be read as confirmation of a 2029 launch.

What is Fate of the Old Republic?
Arcanaut Studios announced Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Arcanaut describes it as a narrative-driven, single-player action RPG in which players take the role of a Force user on a journey through a galaxy on the edge of rebirth. StarWars.com says it was announced at The Game Awards 2025 and identifies Casey Hudson as its director. The official announcement describes an all-new story.
Rank #2
- This renewed game may come repackaged in a generic case. It has been cleaned, tested, and shows minimal wear.
Is it a sequel to Knights of the Old Republic?
Arcanaut calls the game a “spiritual successor” to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR). That signals a creative or thematic lineage, but does not establish a direct plot sequel or continuation of KOTOR’s characters and events. The available announcement describes an all-new story.
For players curious about that lineage, KOTOR is the earlier game Arcanaut names as its spiritual predecessor; it is not the unreleased Fate of the Old Republic.
