Is Fate of the Old Republic a KOTOR sequel?

The original Knights of the Old Republic was released in 2003, according to the StarWars.com interview. Hudson says the new game aims to bring together player agency and immersion in a Star Wars story, while Reilly describes the wider setting as offering “infinite stories to tell.” Neither statement confirms returning protagonists or a shared storyline.
Who is making the game?
Arcanaut Studios is developing Fate of the Old Republic in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. Hudson, known for his connection to KOTOR’s legacy, directs the project and leads Arcanaut. The studio says it was founded in July 2025 by Hudson, Chris Bain, Cordy Rierson and Ryan Hoyle. It is headquartered in Edmonton, Alberta, with an additional office in Kelowna, British Columbia.
