What kind of game is Star Wars Jedi: Survivor?
Electronic Arts describes Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as a “narratively driven, single-player game.” It is a third-person action-adventure developed by Respawn Entertainment in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. The story follows Cal Kestis as the galaxy grows darker, beginning five years after Fallen Order. The game was released on April 28, 2023. Combat returns with additional Force abilities and lightsaber fighting styles, according to StarWars.com. That establishes the broad direction, not a verdict on how the combat feels or whether it will suit your preferences.
Do you need to play Fallen Order first?
No. EA Help says, “You don’t need to have played the previous game to play Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, as each game can stand alone.” Because Survivor is a sequel set five years later, playing Fallen Order first can provide character and story context, but it is not a stated prerequisite. EA also says that progress does not transfer between the games. EA Help’s article covers both points.

The PS4 and Xbox One versions followed the 2023 PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S release. EA announced the last-generation versions on September 17, 2024; check the live store listing for current availability, edition, and price. EA’s announcement gave a $49.99 suggested retail price for the PS4 and Xbox One editions at their launch. That is a historical launch price, not a current price.

- Decide how much context you want. You can begin with Survivor alone; Fallen Order is an optional way to get more of the preceding story.
The official descriptions establish a solo, story-led Star Wars adventure with lightsaber combat; they do not settle whether its pacing, combat, or technical performance will be right for a particular player. For PC performance especially, the published requirements should not be mistaken for hands-on results.
