If Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will not open, work through the checks in this order: confirm the PC meets the game’s requirements and has enough free space, install every pending game and launcher update, start the game from the store where you bought it, repair the EA account handoff, then test VPN, firewall and antivirus interference. This sequence separates a hardware limit from an authentication failure, a blocked executable and a crash during startup.
The published guidance is primarily for the PC versions distributed through the EA app, Steam and Epic. Console behavior and menus differ, so do not assume a PC fix applies to a console.

First identify where launch stops
“Not launching” can describe several different failures. The correct fix depends on the stage at which the process stops:
- Nothing happens after clicking Play: suspect an account handoff, a blocked launcher process, security software or an unmet requirement.
- An EA sign-in window appears and closes: check the linked EA account, launcher updates and network restrictions.
- A game window opens and immediately disappears: check files, graphics-driver updates, Windows updates and startup crashes.
- The game reaches the main menu but freezes or crashes later: treat it as an in-game stability problem rather than a pure launch failure.
Write down the exact message, error code or error ID before changing anything. A description such as “Your Game Failed to Launch” is less useful to support than the complete text shown by the launcher.

Check hardware, Windows and free space before changing software
Electronic Arts lists the following PC requirements. The minimum tier is a threshold for starting the game, not a promise of smooth performance. The recommended tier is the safer target, particularly if you use higher resolutions or demanding graphics options.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Operating system | 64-bit Windows 10 or newer | 64-bit Windows 10 or newer |
| Processor | Intel Core i7-7700 or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 class | Intel Core i5-11600K or AMD Ryzen 5 1400 class |
| Memory | 8GB RAM | 16GB RAM |
| Graphics card | Nvidia GTX 1070 or AMD RX 580 class, with 8GB VRAM | Nvidia RTX 2070 or AMD RX 6700 XT class |
| Storage | 155GB free space | 155GB free space on an SSD |
| API and network | DirectX 12 and broadband internet are listed by Steam for required patching | DirectX 12 and broadband internet are listed by Steam for required patching |
Check free space on the drive that contains the game, not just the drive where Windows is installed. Updates and temporary files can require additional working room, so a drive that is exactly at 155GB free may still fail an installation or patch. If the computer has only 8GB of RAM or is below the listed graphics class, resolve that limitation before spending time on launcher repairs.
Install all updates, then restart
An out-of-date component can prevent the executable and the launcher from agreeing on files or authentication. Update each layer, restarting Windows after the updates finish:
- Open the store that owns the game and allow any Jedi: Survivor patch to complete.
- Update the EA app. Steam and Epic copies still use EA app components for sign-in and launch handoff.
- Install pending Windows updates.
- Install the current driver for your Nvidia or AMD graphics card from the manufacturer’s supported software.
- Restart the PC, even if an updater does not explicitly request it, and try the game once from its purchasing storefront.
EA’s Patch 9 notes say the PC update focused primarily on performance and quality-of-life improvements. The notes include framerate improvements, hitching fixes, ray-tracing CPU optimization, a conversation-related crash fix, fixes for intermittent crashes and removal of Denuvo DRM. If your installation is behind that patch, updating is a higher-value step than repeatedly reinstalling the same old build.
Use the correct storefront and repair the EA account handoff
EA sells the PC version through the EA app, Steam and Epic. A Steam or Epic purchase still requires the EA app and a linked EA account. If the wrong EA account is signed in, the account link is broken, or the launcher handoff times out, the game can fail before its own executable appears.

| Where you bought the game | How to launch | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| EA app | Open the EA app, sign in, select the game in your Library and choose Play. | Use the EA account that owns the entitlement; let the app finish updates before starting. |
| Steam | Start it from the Steam Library. Allow Steam to open or switch to the EA app when prompted. | Confirm Steam and EA are linked to the intended accounts and that neither client is waiting for an update. |
| Epic Games Store | Start it from the Epic Library and allow the EA app handoff. | Confirm the Epic entitlement is linked to the same EA account used for the game. |
Do not launch the executable directly from its installation folder as a workaround for a failed handoff; that bypasses the ownership and authentication path the PC release expects. If the handoff repeatedly opens the wrong account, sign out of the EA app, close it completely, reopen it and sign in to the account that originally claimed the game. Avoid unlinking accounts casually: an account change can create a different entitlement problem rather than repair the original one.
Repair the installed files
Use the file-repair command in the storefront that owns the installation. Repairing is preferable to deleting the game because it replaces damaged or missing files while preserving the rest of the installation.
Recommended Free Tools
EA app
- Open Library and select Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
- Open the game’s Manage menu and choose Repair (the wording can vary slightly by EA app revision).
- Wait for verification and replacement to finish, then restart the EA app and try Play again.
Steam
- Open Library, right-click the game and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files and select Verify integrity of game files.
- Allow Steam to reacquire files, restart Steam, and start the game from the Steam Library.
Epic Games Store
- Open Library, select the three-dot menu beside the game and choose Manage.
- Select Verify and wait for Epic to complete its scan.
- Reopen Epic and allow the EA app handoff when you press Launch.
A repair can report success while the real failure is an account, firewall or hardware issue. If the files pass verification and the same error returns, move to the next branch instead of repeating the scan.
Remove VPN, firewall and antivirus interference
EA’s launch-error guidance states: “Make sure that you’re not connected to any kind of VPN.” Disconnect a VPN completely, close its background client and test one launch. A VPN can interfere with the authentication or launcher connection even when ordinary web browsing works.
Also check that Windows Firewall and antivirus software are not blocking the game, the EA app, Steam or Epic. Add the game and the relevant launcher processes to the security software’s allowed list using its normal interface. Do not leave protection disabled permanently; use a brief test, then restore protection and create a specific allow rule if that identifies the cause.
Use a clean boot only as a diagnostic
Background overlays, hardware monitors, RGB utilities and aggressive security tools can conflict with startup. A Windows clean boot loads a minimal set of services. If the game starts in that state, re-enable disabled services in groups until the conflicting program is identified. EA specifically advises whitelisting the relevant EA processes during a clean-boot investigation. Return Windows to normal startup after testing so ordinary drivers and services continue to load.

Check administrator privileges
EA’s guidance also calls for sufficient Windows administrator privileges. Make sure the Windows account can write to the game and launcher folders and that security software is not silently denying access. If the game is installed under a protected directory, use the launcher’s normal elevated permission behavior rather than downloading replacement executables from unofficial sites.

No window and no useful message
Confirm the game was started from the purchasing storefront, the correct EA account is signed in, and VPN, firewall and antivirus checks are complete. Then repair the files and restart Windows. This pattern most often points to a launcher handoff or blocked process, but it is not proof of one universal cause.
“Your Game Failed to Launch” or an error ID
Capture the complete text and ID, including capitalization and punctuation. Record the storefront, EA account state, Windows version, processor, graphics card, installed RAM and free storage. Use the EA support routes for crash and freezing, connection, EA Play, DxDiag, DirectX and EA app troubleshooting. The error ID lets support distinguish an authentication failure from a local crash.
Black screen, crash or return to desktop after the window appears
Complete updates and file repair first. Then test with overlays and nonessential background utilities disabled. If you use ray tracing or another demanding graphics feature, start with conservative settings after the game opens; Patch 9 specifically included ray-tracing CPU optimization and crash fixes, so an unpatched build can behave differently from a current one.

It launches but crashes during play
This is an in-game stability issue rather than a failure to pass the launcher. Keep the game, graphics driver and Windows current, compare your hardware with the recommended tier, and note whether the crash is intermittent or tied to a particular conversation or area. Patch 9 documents fixes for intermittent crashes and a conversation-related crash, but no official source promises that every later crash has one common remedy.
What to do on a console
The hardware table, EA app requirement and Steam/Epic handoff apply to PC. On a console, use the platform’s own game-update and system-update controls, fully restart the console, and use the platform’s reinstall or file-repair option if available. If the console shows an account or network code, save that code and contact EA support with the console model, region, account, exact message and the steps already attempted. Do not apply PC driver or Windows clean-boot instructions to a console.
When reinstalling is justified
Reinstall only after requirements, updates, account linkage, security rules and file repair have been checked. A reinstall cannot correct an account linked to the wrong EA profile, a VPN restriction or a PC below the minimum specification. If you do reinstall, remove the existing installation through the owning storefront, restart Windows, install to a drive with ample free space, update the launcher before launching and start from the original storefront.
Prepare an effective EA support request
If the problem survives the sequence above, contact EA support rather than guessing at registry edits or downloading unofficial fixes. Include:

- The exact error text and error ID, if shown.
- Whether the copy is from the EA app, Steam or Epic, and whether the failure occurs before or after the EA app opens.
- Your Windows edition and version, CPU, GPU, RAM and available storage.
- Whether VPN, firewall or antivirus testing changed the behavior.
- The game, launcher, Windows and graphics-driver update status.
- The repair result and the date and time of the latest failed launch.
EA’s support hub provides routes for crash and freezing, connection, EA Play, DxDiag, DirectX and EA app issues. Supplying the requested diagnostics and your error ID gives support a reproducible starting point instead of a generic “the game will not launch” report.
