It is most appealing if you want demanding lightsaber combat, optional exploration and a continuing Cal Kestis story; players who prioritize a tightly paced journey or need proven performance on a specific platform should weigh those preferences before buying.
What kind of game is Jedi: Survivor?
Electronic Arts describes Star Wars Jedi: Survivor as a narratively driven, single-player, third-person action adventure developed by Respawn Entertainment with Lucasfilm Games. It follows Cal Kestis five years after Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. EA’s official pitch emphasizes a more desperate struggle against the Empire, new and familiar threats, traversal, rideable creatures, exploration and expanded Force abilities; those are the publisher’s descriptions, rather than independent judgments about how well each feature works.

The sequel launched on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on April 28, 2023. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions were announced later and released in 2024. EA lists PC distribution through its app, Steam and Epic. See EA’s game and platform information and its news index for the relevant announcements.
How much does Fallen Order matter?
You do not have to finish Fallen Order to play Survivor: EA Support says the sequel can be played as a standalone story, and progress does not transfer between the games. The stories are connected, though, and knowing Cal’s earlier journey gives more context for his relationships and the state of the galaxy. If you are mainly interested in the combat and setting, you can start here; if character history is a priority, playing the first game first is the more rewarding order.
#1 Best Overall
- No longer a Padawan, Cal has come into his own and grown into a powerful Jedi Knight; Carrying the memories and expectations of the Jedi Order with him, his crusade against the Empire has only become more perilous
- The cinematic combat system returns with additional Force abilities and new lightsaber fighting styles; Creatively leverage all these abilities and weapons to strategically take on an expanded host of enemies, sizing up strengths and weaknesses
- Discover new planets and familiar frontiers in the Star Wars galaxy, each with unique biomes, challenges, and enemies; Master new skills, equipment, and abilities that will augment the ways you explore, fight, and roam
- With larger areas to explore and more to discover off the beaten path, players who adventure beyond the horizon will find hidden rewards
TechRadar’s recommendation feature likewise presents Fallen Order as useful preparation rather than a prerequisite. That is an editorial recommendation, not a technical test or a substitute for judging the sequel on its own. EA Support’s game help pages provide the standalone-play and save-transfer guidance.
Does the expanded combat make a difference?
Survivor gives Cal more combat options and adds depth through stances, abilities and customization. PlayStation’s product page specifically names Dual Wield, Cross-Guard and Blaster stances. These offer different approaches to a fight, while the series’ parry-and-counter rhythm still asks you to read enemy attacks and respond deliberately. TechRadar characterizes the combat as demanding, particularly around parries and counterattacks.
Rank #2
- Continue Cal’s journey: No longer a padawan, Cal has come into his own and grown into a powerful Jedi Knight
- Go beyond your training: The cinematic combat system returns with additional force abilities and new lightsaber fighting styles
- Explore an untamed galaxy: Discover new planets and familiar frontiers in the Star Wars galaxy, each with unique biomes, challenges, and enemies

The appeal is choice rather than a promise that every encounter becomes effortless. Players who enjoy learning attack patterns and switching tactics have more tools to work with; those who prefer forgiving, button-mashing action may find the timing less welcoming. EA’s descriptions establish the available feature set, but they do not establish a controlled measure of responsiveness or a platform-by-platform comparison.
How do exploration and pacing compare with the first game?
EA describes larger areas, more traversal, exploration and hidden rewards. That gives the sequel room for detours and discovery alongside the main story. Whether the broader scope feels worthwhile depends on how much you enjoy searching off the critical path and navigating between objectives; more space is not, by itself, proof of better pacing. The available evidence does not establish a measured completion time or a controlled assessment of backtracking.
Rank #3
The useful expectation is a continuation of the action-adventure structure, with more room to explore and more systems to engage with. TechRadar’s later feature considers the story rewarding, but that remains one outlet’s editorial opinion rather than a consensus score or a guarantee that every player will like the pacing.
Which platform should you choose?
The game is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. EA also announced optimization for PS5 Pro in November 2024. These release and announcement facts do not establish current frame rates, image quality, loading behavior or stability for any version. No controlled, current platform testing is established here, so choose based on the system you own and check current platform-specific reviews if measured performance is decisive.
Rank #4

For PC, EA lists Windows 10 or newer, an Intel Core i7-7700 or AMD Ryzen 5 1400, 8 GB RAM, 155 GB free drive space and an 8 GB VRAM GTX 1070- or Radeon RX 580-class GPU as minimum requirements. Its recommended listing calls for 16 GB RAM, 155 GB of SSD space, an Intel Core i5-11600K or Ryzen 5 1400, and RTX 2070- or RX 6700 XT-class graphics. These are EA-published requirements, not a guarantee of a particular resolution, frame rate or stable experience. Check the current EA Help system requirements before installing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What about accessibility?
EA’s news index lists an accessibility-design article dated April 25, 2023. That confirms the article exists, but does not by itself establish the game’s full current set of accessibility settings or how each option works. Players who need a particular accommodation should consult the detailed accessibility documentation and verify that the current version supports it before purchase. The same index lists patch notes dated October 29, 2024 and a general FAQ dated March 27, 2025; the listing alone does not show the present effect of every update.

- Good fit: players who want a single-player Star Wars adventure, enjoy parry-focused combat and like having optional exploration and combat customization.
- Better after Fallen Order: players who care about the continuity of Cal’s story and want the character context, even though the first game is not required.
- Check first: players who are sensitive to performance problems, rely on specific accessibility features, or are choosing between versions based on technical behavior. Confirm current platform-specific evidence rather than treating requirements or feature announcements as performance results.
My verdict is that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a compelling choice for players who want a broader, more configurable follow-up to Fallen Order, provided its demanding combat and expanded exploration match their tastes. It is easier to recommend as a story-and-combat sequel than as a blind platform-specific purchase: the official feature list is clear, but current performance and local pricing need to be checked for the version you intend to play.
