These are diagnostic steps, not guaranteed fixes: the available official information does not identify one universal cause of PC stutter. The first useful distinction is whether you are seeing continuous microstuttering, occasional FPS drops, or brief pauses during a particular action.
Identify what kind of stutter you are seeing
“Stuttering” can describe different symptoms, and the distinction helps narrow down what to check. Ubisoft’s support discussion specifically refers to microstuttering, but the official sources do not establish that all stutter, frame-rate drops, and pauses share one cause.
- Microstuttering: repeated uneven motion or brief hitching, even when the displayed frame rate seems broadly stable.
- FPS drops: a noticeable reduction in frame rate, often associated with a demanding scene or graphics setting.
- Brief pauses: a short interruption that may happen during a particular action or transition.
Note where it happens, what you were doing, your settings, and whether the frame rate changed. This makes it easier to tell whether a change actually helped and gives support a reproducible example.
Compare your PC with Ubisoft’s performance targets
Ubisoft published target configurations for particular resolutions and presets. Treat these as reference points, not independent benchmark results or a guarantee that every system meeting them will run without stutter. The following tiers were published by Ubisoft in 2024; the 4K tier is listed by the Ubisoft Store, accessed in 2026.

Ubisoft’s PC system requirements specify Windows 10/11 and DirectX 12 alongside the minimum and recommended targets. Steam also lists 65 GB of available storage and an SSD requirement.
If your system is below the minimum target for the resolution and settings you want, lower the resolution and graphics demands toward Ubisoft’s minimum tier, then check whether the symptom changes. This is a reasonable way to test the load on your PC, not an official guaranteed fix. When comparing your own hardware, include the GPU model and VRAM, CPU, RAM capacity and channel configuration, intended resolution and preset, and whether the game is on an SSD.

Check storage and game updates
Verify the installation drive
Ubisoft’s requirements specify a 65 GB SSD, and Steam explicitly marks an SSD as required. Check that the game is installed on an SSD and that the drive meets the stated available-space requirement. This supports considering a compatible SSD only if you lack one or do not have the required capacity; it does not establish that replacing an existing suitable SSD cures stuttering.
Confirm the installed game version
Check your installed game version and review Ubisoft’s official patch notes for relevant updates. The cited updates addressed specific performance or graphics-related cases, not all PC stutter:

- Title Update 1.5.1, February 6, 2025: Ubisoft said the PC version added DLSS 4 with Multi Frame Generation support for GeForce RTX 50-series GPUs. The announcement describes a frame-generation feature, not a promise to eliminate stutter. Read the Title Update 1.5.1 notes.
- Hotfix 5.3, April 3, 2025: Ubisoft described the PC hotfix as bringing improved performance and stability for NVIDIA GPU users. That statement does not establish it as a general fix for every system or symptom. Read Ubisoft’s Hotfix 5.3 announcement.
- Title Update 1.6: Ubisoft fixed a crash involving FSR3 Frame Generation and FreeSync Premium Pro HDR. This is a specific crash fix, not evidence of a general stutter fix. Check Ubisoft’s official updates.
These dated notes show that updates have addressed particular issues. They do not establish which build is currently latest or whether an update resolves the symptom on your PC.
Test settings one at a time
Outlaws supports ray-traced global illumination, reflections and shadows, NVIDIA RTXDI, DLSS, Intel XeSS, AMD FSR, uncapped frame rates, ultrawide displays, and multi-monitor modes. That list provides useful context for the settings and features in use, but it does not mean any one feature is a universal cause of stutter.

- Record your game version, graphics driver version, CPU, GPU and VRAM, RAM configuration, installation drive, resolution, preset, and whether the symptom is microstuttering, an FPS drop, or a brief pause.
- Pick one performance variable to change, such as resolution, graphics preset, or a demanding graphics feature. Avoid changing several at once so you can identify whether a specific adjustment affects the symptom.
- Repeat the same action or revisit the same area, then note whether the symptom changed and how. If it did not, restore the setting before testing another variable.
- Keep a brief record of the area, action, settings, frame-rate behavior, and timing. A short video can help show what you mean by a hitch or pause.
Escalate persistent microstuttering
If microstuttering persists after you have compared your setup with the targets, checked storage and updates, and documented the changes you tried, contact Ubisoft support through its official Discord channel. In a July 10, 2025 support response to one player, a Ubisoft representative recommended sharing DXDiag and MSInfo reports, steps already tried, and a video if possible so the team could investigate. That response describes one support case; it is not a diagnosis of every PC’s stutter.
