Check Blizzard’s current service notices first. Historical login incidents and player reports of regional differences can offer context, but neither establishes the cause of a current failure.
What the Battle.net outage message tells you
The error is a symptom, not a diagnosis. Blizzard has previously reported authentication-server problems that caused failed or slow logins, and players have described cases where Americas failed while another region worked. Those past incidents and anecdotes do not show that Americas is down now, or pinpoint whether a current problem is with Blizzard, your connection, or your account.

For example, BlizzardCS reported on January 30, 2026, that it was investigating an issue affecting authentication servers that could cause failed or slow login attempts. That statement concerned that incident only; it is not a live status update. Read the Blizzard forum post reproducing the notice.
A separate BlizzardCS notice dated April 3, 2025, said a DDoS attack could cause high latency and disconnections for some players while Blizzard worked to mitigate it. That historical notice also does not establish the cause of a current StarCraft II login failure. Read the Blizzard support forum post.

Check whether there is a current service incident
Consult Blizzard’s current service notices and support channels before treating the message as proof that Americas is down. The historical notices above cannot verify service status today. If Blizzard has not confirmed an incident, treat the cause as unknown rather than assuming a regional outage.
Use regional behavior as a clue, not a fix
Some StarCraft II forum reports describe Americas failing while another region worked. This can help you describe the scope of a problem, but it is not a reliable diagnostic test: an anecdotal regional comparison cannot rule out local routing, account-specific issues, or other causes, and it does not establish a remedy.

If you compare what is happening, note:
- The Battle.net region selected.
- Whether another region or another Blizzard game can authenticate.
- The exact error text and whether it appears in the Battle.net launcher or in StarCraft II.
- The date and time, including time zone.
- Your platform and network context.
These details make reports easier to compare; they do not by themselves identify the fault. Forum examples of regional differences include a StarCraft II server report and a report titled “Americas is down”.
When you are stuck on “Authenticating”
Record the exact symptom—such as “stuck on Authenticating,” “Battle.net is down,” or “There is a temporary outage on the Battle.net server”—along with when and where it occurs. A report that identifies the selected region and whether other Blizzard services work is more informative than the outage wording by itself.

Players have suggested steps such as changing firewall permissions or retrying login, but the available reports do not verify these as general fixes. Do not disable security software based on an anecdote. The cited reports also do not establish that a VPN, DNS service, router change, or PC utility will solve the problem.

Blizzard forum threads include player accounts and reproduced BlizzardCS notices, not a verified live status report for the Americas StarCraft II service. A January 2025 moderator reply that an issue “should have cleared up” referred to that older thread, not a present-day outage. See the older outage thread.

Without a current Blizzard notice, the responsible conclusion is limited: the login failure is real for the affected player, but the message alone does not show whether the cause is a Blizzard service incident or something specific to the player’s account or connection.
