Stardew Valley 1.6 is a major content update, not a small bug-fix patch. It launched on PC on March 19, 2024, then reached console and mobile on November 4, 2024 as version 1.6.9. The update adds new festivals, the Meadowlands Farm, mastery progression, crops, machines, dialogue, visual changes, multiplayer improvements and extensive fixes. ConcernedApe’s complete changelog is spoiler-heavy, so the overview below stays broad before directing you to the official notes.
When did Stardew Valley 1.6 release?

The rollout was staggered, so “1.6” does not identify one identical build on every platform. Storefronts and consoles can display newer platform-specific builds; check your platform’s official listing for the current number.

What’s new in the 1.6 update?
The official changelog is extensive. These are the major additions and systems players are most likely to notice.
New festivals and seasonal events
- A three-day spring Desert Festival becomes available after the bus is repaired.
- The Trout Derby and SquidFest add dedicated fishing-festival activities.
- A new summer environmental event expands the seasonal world activity.
Mastery progression
Mastery introduces a new area containing powerful perks and items. It gives experienced players another progression path after developing their skills, rather than simply adding more ordinary levels.

Meadowlands Farm
The Meadowlands Farm map starts with a coop and two chickens. Its distinctive blue grass is described in the official notes as being loved by animals, giving the farm a different opening rhythm from the established maps.
Four new crops
The update adds exactly four crops: carrots, summer squash, broccoli and powdermelon. Their availability and uses are detailed in the full changelog.

New machines, books and collectibles
- Processing and production additions include the dehydrator, mushroom log, bait maker, heavy furnace and fish smoker.
- Books of Power and skill books add new ways to obtain knowledge or bonuses.
- The update includes additional pets, outfits, dialogue, secrets and eight new achievements.
Visual and interface improvements
Version 1.6 adds seasonal map variants, waterfalls, lighting adjustments, revised visuals and interface changes. These are spread throughout the world and menus rather than confined to one new location.
Multiplayer changes
On PC, the official notes support multiplayer sessions with up to eight players. That limit is platform-specific; do not assume the same maximum applies to console or mobile. The update also includes packet-compression work, Steam multiplayer authentication changes, synchronization improvements, and performance and stability fixes.
Balance changes and bug fixes
Beyond new content, the changelog contains a large set of balance adjustments and technical, gameplay and multiplayer fixes. Because the list is long and some changes affect progression or item behavior, use the official full changelog when you need to verify one specific mechanic. A feature summary cannot substitute for its individual entries.

How the platform versions differ
Compare a platform release by its date, build number and platform-specific fixes—not only by the shared “1.6” label. PC received the update first; console and mobile followed at 1.6.9; and consoles later received 1.6.15.1 content synchronization with PC. The official announcements do not establish that every platform has identical performance, multiplayer limits or update timing.
Optional companion: The Stardew Valley Cookbook
The official cookbook announcement describes a separate real-world cookbook with more than 50 recipes, photographs, character appearances and illustrations. It is an optional fan companion, not a requirement for playing version 1.6 or reading its patch notes.
