How to build friendship with Caroline efficiently
Caroline is Pierre’s wife, not a romance candidate. For friendship, prioritize gifts you can obtain easily rather than waiting for a rare or crafted favorite. The current preference list on the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Caroline page reflects the game’s gift preferences; its update history notes that version 1.6 changed gift dialogue and added Wild Horseradish to her liked gifts.

Easy gifts to start with
- Daffodil or Wild Horseradish: both are liked spring finds, making them practical early gifts.
- Summer Spangle: a loved gift when you can get one in summer.
- Tea Leaves: liked, but only available after you unlock Caroline’s sunroom and during the last week of each season.
- Green Tea: loved, but it is made in a Keg from Tea Leaves, so it is not a convenient early-game option.
Other loved gifts include Tropical Curry, Fish Taco, Stardrop Tea, and universal loved gifts. Tropical Curry is cooked from Coconut, Pineapple, and Hot Pepper. Fish Taco is loved even though Mayonnaise itself is a disliked gift. For universal categories and exceptions, consult the Stardew Valley Wiki gift list alongside Caroline’s specific preferences.
Gift points and the weekly limit
You can give Caroline two gifts per week, plus one on her birthday, Winter 7. The Friendship page lists base values of 80 friendship points for a normal-quality loved gift and 45 for a normal-quality liked gift. Item quality changes the points earned, and a birthday gift receives an eight-times friendship-point multiplier on top of the preference and quality calculation. A normal-quality loved gift on Winter 7 therefore gives 640 points before any other applicable modifier. If you have a loved gift available then, use it on her birthday; otherwise, regular liked gifts are still a useful way to build friendship.

Talking with Caroline when you pass her is a convenient extra, but it is not a prerequisite listed for triggering her two-heart event.
Which gifts Caroline likes, loves, and dislikes
Use Caroline’s specific list rather than assuming every item in a broad gift category works for her. Her listed loved gifts are Green Tea, Summer Spangle, Tropical Curry, Fish Taco, Stardrop Tea, and universal loved gifts. Her listed likes include Daffodil, Tea Leaves, Wild Horseradish, and universal liked gifts—with several exceptions.
Gifts to avoid
- Dislikes: Amaranth, Chanterelle, Common Mushroom, Dandelion, Duck Mayonnaise, Ginger, Hazelnut, Holly, Leek, Magma Cap, Mayonnaise, Morel, Purple Mushroom, Snow Yam, and Winter Root.
- Hates: Quartz and Salmonberry.
Caroline-specific dislikes and hates take precedence over any general category that might otherwise suggest an item is acceptable. The full Caroline preference list and gift reference provide the categories and exceptions.
How to trigger Caroline’s two-heart event
- Reach two hearts with Caroline.
- On a day when it is not raining, go to Pierre’s General Store and enter Caroline’s kitchen.
- Enter the door from the kitchen into the sunroom between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
If the scene does not start, check your heart level, the weather, and the time, then try again under the stated conditions. During the event, Caroline says, “Feel free to come here and relax any time you want, okay?” The choice to accept or decline the green tea does not affect friendship; either response proceeds with the scene.

What the two-heart event unlocks
After the scene, you can enter the sunroom whenever the house is open. Its Tea Bush produces one Tea Leaf per day during the last week of each season—not every day throughout the year. Caroline mails you the Tea Sapling crafting recipe the following day. Tea Leaves can then serve as a liked gift, or be used to make Green Tea in a Keg, which Caroline loves.
