A free HTML5 demo is playable in a browser through the game’s itch.io page, while a free Steam demo covers one in-game season—28 in-game days. The full Steam release is planned for 2 November 2026, although that date may change.
What is Tales of Tonbrook?
Tales of Tonbrook begins when your character receives an invitation to Daverton Adventurer’s Academy. You attend classes, practice skills, complete missions to pay for schooling and build relationships with fellow students and other characters. Outside the academy, the game opens into a larger world with farms, fishing spots, hidden ruins and opportunities to earn money.

Sapient Games describes the project as a life-sim/RPG hybrid and positions it as “Stardew Valley meets Dungeons and Dragons.” That is the developer’s own description rather than an independent comparison, but it accurately signals the game’s two-part structure: a routine-focused life simulation alongside exploration and tactical adventuring.

Academy progression
Studying and practicing skills raises their levels. Missions are not only story activities; they also help fund your education, making your character’s schedule and income part of progression.
#1 Best Overall
- For 1 to 4 players
- Ages 13+
- About 45 minutes per player
- A cooperative board game
- Based on the hit video game
Ways to earn money
You can farm, fish, loot, wait tables or run a factory. These activities give the non-combat portions of the game several different rhythms, from repeatable work to riskier exploration.
Exploration and combat
The world contains hidden ruins and lore-focused story material. When danger appears, combat is tactical and party-based, providing a more deliberate contrast to farming, fishing and social activities.

- MAIN CHARACTERS WANTED: Recommended for 2-5 players, ages 12 and up
Relationships
Building friendships with students and other characters is a core system rather than a side detail. Relationship scenes are part of the ongoing story and can sit alongside skill training, missions and money-making in the same playthrough.
Where to play Tales of Tonbrook free
| Version | How to access it | Current scope |
|---|---|---|
| HTML5 browser demo | Play through Sapient Games’ itch.io page | Actively developed browser demo; features can change as development continues |

| Full game | Not released yet | Planned for Steam on 2 November 2026; the date is subject to change |
The two demos should not be treated as the complete game. The Steam description explicitly limits its demo to a single 28-day season, and both versions are still being expanded during development.

What changed in version 0.50?
Sapient Games’ version 0.50 development update expanded the browser build with several new locations and activities:
- Bellhaven: a new area to explore.
- Pawnshop: sells randomly found rare items.
- Farmer’s market: offers fresh produce.
- Story content: a new plot cutscene and a relationship scene with Goranna.
- Audio: two additional music tracks.
- Controls: experimental touchscreen support and controller support for the web version.
- Fix: the update says the “mug” skill should now work properly.
Because the project is an actively developed demo, these additions illustrate its current direction rather than a final feature list.

Is it more like Stardew Valley or Dungeons & Dragons?
That depends on how you play. Farming, fishing, earning money, daily routines and relationship building occupy the life-sim side. Skill training, missions, ruins, lore and tactical party combat provide the tabletop-inspired adventure side. The game is therefore not simply a farming game with cosmetic fantasy elements, nor a conventional dungeon crawler with a home base; its premise is to make both loops support one another.

How long is the demo?
The Steam demo’s documented limit is one in-game season: 28 in-game days. That is a calendar limit, not a promise of a fixed number of real-world hours, because time spent on activities and exploration varies by player. The browser build is also a work-in-progress demo, and its exact boundaries may change with updates.

What to expect from the planned full release
The Steam listing gives 2 November 2026 as the planned release date. Until launch, features, balance, content and the schedule can change. The safest way to evaluate the game now is to use the free demos as an early look at its academy, life-sim and tactical-RPG foundations rather than as a finished representation of the eventual release.
