Is Stardew Valley fully voice acted?
Not by the recorded-voice mod documented here. Stardew Voices describes itself as a proof of concept and says it currently voices romanceable characters. Its coverage includes those characters’ dialogue lines, events, festivals and text bubbles, rather than every NPC in Stardew Valley.

The distinction matters: “full voice acting” can suggest a complete cast-wide dub. The available recorded performances do not establish that. The mod listing says the voices are not AI-generated; it does not claim complete coverage of the game.

These are different approaches, not a documented quality ranking. Stardew Voices presents character performances for a limited cast. Simple Voice TTS aims for wider text coverage by reading text aloud with system voices, so its sound depends on the voices available on the player’s computer.

What changes when dialogue is voiced?
Voices add a performed sound to character interactions that otherwise arrive as text. That can change how a conversation feels and how players imagine a character, but the mod and project pages provide no study measuring an effect on immersion or enjoyment. Whether the result feels more lively, distracting or simply different is a matter of player preference—not an established performance claim.
Coverage also shapes the experience. With Stardew Voices, a voiced exchange may sit alongside unvoiced characters and other text. Simple Voice TTS can speak a wider range of text, but it does so through system-generated speech rather than a recorded cast. Those differences are more useful to consider than treating either option as a complete, interchangeable dub.
How to install Stardew Voices
Stardew Voices requires SMAPI, the mod loader for Stardew Valley. SMAPI’s project site lists version 4.5.2 and requires Stardew Valley 1.6.14 or later for Linux, macOS, Windows and Steam Deck. These requirements were current on 8 October 2026; check the official SMAPI site and the mod listing for updates before installing.
- Install the latest SMAPI version compatible with your Stardew Valley installation. On macOS, follow SMAPI’s full installation guide to avoid security warnings.
- Download Stardew Voices from its Nexus Mods listing and unzip the downloaded mod.
- Place the unzipped mod folder in Stardew Valley’s
Modsfolder. - Launch the game through SMAPI. The mod listing names Generic Mod Config Menu as a dependency for menu controls.
The Stardew Voices listing identifies version 2.0.3.5 and an update dated 27 April 2026. That update changed file pathing to address Mac, Linux and Stardrop issues, but the listing still documents a Mac workaround for locating audio files and warns that the beta may contain bugs. Do not assume identical behavior across platforms just because SMAPI supports them.

What to know about Simple Voice TTS
Simple Voice TTS is the broader option if the priority is having text spoken for every NPC and in-game text. Its listing says it can also cover dialogue from mods and custom content. It uses Windows Text-to-Speech (SAPI5) voices installed on the player’s system; it is not the recorded voice cast used by Stardew Voices.
The listing says more installed voices create more variety and that free voices can be installed through Windows language settings or its MCM mod. For supported languages, the corresponding voices must be available. Simple Voice TTS is listed as version 2.0.2, updated 16 August 2026.

Will Stardew Voices cover the whole game?
In the mod listing’s FAQ, creator Shannon Hobby answers “Will you be doing the whole game?” with “No,” and says a code walkthrough or tutorial may let other people create audio for additional characters. Hobby also says that financing voice actors at the previous rate is no longer feasible. The listing mentions possible future consideration of Clint and Sandy depending on reception, after work on the current release. That is a statement of the creator’s position at the time of the listing, not a guarantee about future updates.
