The best choice depends on whether you need combat power, cargo space, crew capacity, travel range, or an affordable ship you can access now. This ranking uses those practical trade-offs—but the available published ship data supports only four entries with comparable stats, so it would be misleading to invent 26 more ships or assign them unsupported ranks.
How to read this Class B ranking
Bethesda describes Class B ships as having moderate firepower and moderate mobility. Class A generally trades firepower for mobility, while Class C trends toward greater firepower and lower mobility. A ship’s class also constrains its compatible modules: the reactor class determines which class of modules the ship can use. These are broad class descriptions, not guarantees that every ship in a class performs alike. Bethesda’s overview of ship manufacturers and classes explains the distinctions.
The order below is an editorial comparison of four documented examples, not an official Bethesda ranking or a claim that these are the four best ships in the game. Stats and listed values come from INARA’s roster; ship availability and specific details should be checked in the current game, since prices and vendor access can depend on progression or change over time. INARA’s database covers more than 310 ships, but it does not establish a definitive top-30 ordering. See INARA’s Starfield ship roster.
Which Class B ship should you choose?
| Rank | Ship | Best fit | Hull | Shield | Damage | Cargo | Crew | Reactor | Jump | Listed value |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Blackhawk III | Combat-leaning all-rounder | 1,099 | 975 | 262 | 640 | 2 | 31 | 30 | 325,100 |
| 2 | Shieldbreaker | Accessible combat-oriented upgrade | 940 | 610 | not stated (INARA) | 2,280 | 5 | not stated (INARA) | 22 | 279,425 (Plarium) |
| 3 | Conquerer III | Cargo and crew capacity | 1,078 | 930 | 155 | 2,240 | 6 | 31 | 18 | 452,450 |
| 4 | Aegis | Longer-range, lower-cargo combat option | 721 | 610 (INARA; value differs in Plarium) | 184 | 200 | 5 | 21 | 29 | 207,150 |
INARA lists the Blackhawk III, Conquerer III, and Aegis values in the table. Plarium reports the Shieldbreaker’s hull, shield, cargo, crew, and jump range, and lists its cost as 279,425 credits. The two sources do not provide a complete, consistent set of fields for all four ships, so blank comparisons are marked “not stated” rather than inferred. Values are database or guide listings, not a guarantee of current in-game performance. INARA ship stats; Plarium’s ship guide.

- Pilot and command the ship of your dreams.
1. Blackhawk III — strongest documented combat profile
Among the four documented examples, the Blackhawk III has the highest listed damage (262) and shield (975), paired with 1,099 hull, a 31 reactor, and 30 jump range. Its 640 cargo capacity and two-person crew limit make it less suited to hauling or carrying a larger crew than the Conquerer III or Shieldbreaker. It ranks first here for a combat-leaning balance of listed defense, damage, and travel range—not because the figures prove it wins every fight. Weapon configuration, upgrades, and player build all affect combat results.
2. Shieldbreaker — a practical combat-oriented step up
Plarium lists the Shieldbreaker with 940 hull, 610 shield, 2,280 cargo, five crew, and 22 LY jump range, and identifies a New Atlantis Ship Services Technician as its location. Its listed price is 279,425 credits. That combination gives it considerably more listed cargo and crew capacity than the Blackhawk III, though less shield and range. The guide describes it as an early combat upgrade; “early” is relative to player access and does not remove the Class B piloting requirement.

3. Conquerer III — for cargo and a larger crew
The Conquerer III is the strongest utility pick in this comparison: INARA lists 2,240 cargo and six crew, the largest figures in the four-ship group. It also has 1,078 hull, 930 shield, and a 31 reactor. The trade-off is its 18 jump range and 155 listed damage, both lower than the Blackhawk III’s corresponding figures. It is ranked below the combat-leaning options because its published profile favors capacity over damage and travel range.
4. Aegis — longer jump range for a lower listed value
INARA lists the Aegis with 29 jump range, a 21 reactor, 184 damage, five crew, and 200 cargo, as well as 721 hull and 610 shield. Its listed value is 207,150. Plarium also identifies it as a Class B combat option available at Deimos Staryards, but reports a shield figure that differs from INARA’s roster. Verify its current configuration in-game if the exact shield value matters. The Aegis ranks fourth in this narrow comparison because its listed damage and defenses trail the first three, while its high jump range and lower listed value may still make it attractive for a different priority.

What are the best Class B ships for combat or cargo?
- Combat: The Blackhawk III leads this set on listed damage and shield values. The Shieldbreaker is another combat-oriented option, with more cargo and crew space in Plarium’s listing.
- Cargo: The Shieldbreaker (2,280) and Conquerer III (2,240) have the largest documented cargo capacities here. The Conquerer III also has the highest crew capacity in the comparison.
- Travel range: The Blackhawk III has a listed 30 jump range, followed by the Aegis at 29. The Conquerer III’s listed range is 18.
- Lower listed value: The Aegis has the lowest value among the four INARA listings. The Shieldbreaker’s 279,425-credit figure comes from Plarium, so it should not be treated as directly equivalent to INARA’s values without checking in-game prices.
These are role-specific calls based on the published figures above, not universal winners. A stronger ship for one job can be a poor fit for another; weapon loadout, module choices, mass, and upgrades matter alongside the roster numbers.

You need Piloting rank 3 to pilot Class B ships; rank 4 unlocks Class C. Before leveling Piloting, you are limited to Class A ships and modules. Bethesda’s Starfield skill overview describes the Piloting unlocks. Bethesda also says ships can be bought, found, stolen, built, or modified, so a ship’s stock specification is only one part of its potential. Check the current game for vendor stock and access requirements before budgeting for a particular model.

Ship Design progression can also matter when modifying or building ships. The reactor determines the module class a ship can use, so buying a Class B hull does not mean every desired module is immediately available. Compare the ship’s present capabilities with the skills and credits needed to reach your intended build.
Why this is not a definitive top 30
The published sources establish comparable specifications for only the four ships shown here, and they do not substantiate a ranked list of 30 best Class B ships. INARA is a useful roster for stats, standard loadouts, and vendor locations, while Bethesda documents class and skill rules; neither supplies an official top-30 ranking. Extending this ranking to 30 with unsupported names, availability claims, or stats would make it less useful, not more complete.
