In Starfield, “landing site” can mean a planetary landing-area marker, an outpost landing pad, or the entire outpost. You can delete a pad as a buildable object or remove a whole outpost from its beacon. For a planetary marker, Bethesda’s landing guidance does not document a direct delete command; a Creations mod can hide its starmap icon, while a temporary-beacon method is only a player-reported workaround.
First identify what you want to remove
Bethesda describes choosing an outpost or city, or selecting a land mass, as ways to pick a landing destination on the Star Map. An outpost landing pad is a separate buildable object, and an outpost beacon manages the entire outpost. These are different actions: deleting the beacon is not a way to remove only a map marker or pad. See Bethesda’s outpost management guidance and landing-target instructions.
- Planetary landing-area marker: A marker associated with a landing site on a planet.
- Outpost landing pad: A structure you built at an outpost.
- Entire outpost: The outpost and its buildings, managed through its beacon.
Remove an outpost landing pad
- Enter outpost build mode and target the landing pad itself.
- Use the interface’s Delete/Replace Object action. On default PC keyboard controls, the key is R; remapped controls may differ. Bethesda lists the default in its mouse and keyboard controls.
- Check that the selected object is the pad, not the outpost beacon. Removing the beacon deletes the entire outpost.
Delete an entire outpost
Use this only if you intend to remove the outpost and its buildings, not merely change where you land. Bethesda recommends saving before serious edits and identifies the beacon as the place to delete or rename an outpost.
- Make a save before proceeding.
- Exit the build menu and approach the outpost beacon.
- Choose the beacon’s remove option and confirm only if you want the whole outpost deleted.
PowerPyx’s September 3, 2023 guide describes the removal prompt as appearing near the beacon outside the build menu, and says confirming removes all buildings. Its specific button directions are dated and can differ by platform or remapped controls: Starfield: How to Remove Outposts.

Hide a planetary landing marker from the starmap
Bethesda’s reviewed landing instructions explain selecting a destination, but do not document a direct command to delete a planetary landing-area marker. The Bethesda Creations mod Hide Or Show Current Map Marker offers a cosmetic alternative. Its listing, updated October 3, 2026, says to read its slate while in the ship and landed at the marker you want to change.
Hiding changes the marker’s visibility on the starmap only: the marker remains on the surface map and is not disabled. The listing also says the game’s own landing-area cleanup still applies. Check the listing for current availability and compatibility with your platform and game version.

Consider the temporary-beacon workaround cautiously
A Steam Community discussion reports a workaround for an unwanted planetary landing-area marker: land at the site, place a temporary outpost beacon close to the ship, exit build mode, remove that temporary outpost, then leave for another landing site or orbit. This is player advice, not a Bethesda-documented or guaranteed fix; the discussion does not establish reliable behavior across platforms or versions. See “Remove Landing Areas”.
If you try it, make a save first and verify which beacon you are removing. Near a permanent outpost, selecting the wrong beacon can delete that outpost and its buildings.

Which option changes what?
| Action | What changes | Documentation and risk |
|---|---|---|
| Delete the landing pad in build mode | Removes the selected pad object. | Bethesda documents the default PC Delete/Replace Object control; confirm the pad, not the beacon, is selected. |
| Remove the outpost at its beacon | Deletes the entire outpost and its buildings. | Bethesda documents beacon-based outpost management; save first and confirm the target. |
| Hide the marker with the Creations mod | Hides the landing-area marker from the starmap, but not the surface map; it does not disable the marker. | Mod-listing instructions; platform and version compatibility may vary. |
| Temporary-beacon workaround | Players report that it may remove an unwanted landing-area marker. | Community-reported and unverified; behavior is not established across platforms or versions, and removing the wrong beacon risks an outpost. |
