Starfield launched on PlayStation 5 on April 7, 2026, and is available now. Its PS5 version adds DualSense effects and controls, while PS5 Pro players can choose between announced Visual and Performance modes. The physical and digital editions differ mainly in their included story expansions and extras.
When did Starfield come out on PS5?
Starfield launched on PS5 on April 7, 2026. Bethesda confirmed the game was available that day in its launch announcement. Bethesda also says the PS5 release includes updates released since the game’s original launch, including Free Lanes.

What DualSense features does Starfield support on PS5?
Bethesda’s March 17, 2026 announcement describes several PS5-specific DualSense features. Adaptive triggers vary by weapon, including weapons in the ship’s loadout. The light bar signals the player’s health and ship integrity. The touchpad provides shortcuts for changing first- or third-person point of view and opening the map or hand scanner. Audio logs and intercom messages from distant ships can play through the controller speaker. Sony’s Store listing also identifies vibration and trigger effects as supported.
What is included in each PS5 edition?
Bethesda lists physical and digital versions of Standard and Premium, plus a digital-only Premium Upgrade. The Upgrade requires the base game separately.

What are Free Lanes and Terran Armada?
Free Lanes is a free update, not a paid edition bonus. PlayStation’s launch announcement says it adds the ability to fly freely between planets within a star system, more space encounters, a resource used for gear and ship customization, and additional options related to Starborn abilities and carrying favorite gear into New Game+.
Terran Armada is separate story DLC. It is included in Premium and Premium Upgrade, and PlayStation says it can also be purchased on its own. Shattered Space is also listed among the Premium additions.

What are the PS5 Pro graphics modes?
Bethesda’s March 17, 2026 announcement specifies two PS5 Pro options:
- Visual mode: 4K resolution at 30 frames per second.
- Performance mode: improved visuals at 60 frames per second.
The announcement does not give a resolution for Performance mode. These are the publisher’s stated mode specifications, not independent benchmark results.
