Starfield Weapons: What’s Confirmed—and What an “Every Weapon” List Needs

Bethesda documents Starfield’s weapon classes, workbench upgrades and ship-combat roles, but the available sources do not verify a complete item-by-item roster or total.

There is no verified, current item-by-item roster in the available sources that supports a claim to list every weapon in Starfield. Bethesda documents weapon classes, upgrades and ship combat, but does not publish a complete named inventory. This guide separates confirmed weapon systems from the unverified all-items count and explains what a truly exhaustive checklist must include.

What weapons are in Starfield?

Bethesda’s Combat skills guide describes several personal-combat groupings: unarmed, ballistic weapons, melee weapons, lasers, pistols, shotguns, heavy weapons, EM weapons, particle beams, rifles and scoped weapons. These are combat and skill categories, not a published list of every weapon model.

That distinction matters for a roster. A class such as pistols describes how weapons are grouped for combat, while an item-by-item checklist needs each exact in-game name and must distinguish standard models from named variants. The official material reviewed here does not establish that complete inventory.

How many weapons are in Starfield?

A reliable total cannot be given from the available evidence. A count needs a defined scope: handheld weapons only or ship-mounted hardware too; base models or unique named variants; and whether downloadable, Creation, and update-added content is included. The number of entries can change depending on those choices.

Third-party search results advertise larger inventories, but their completeness, variant treatment and coverage after the Free Lanes update have not been verified here. For that reason, this is a guide to confirmed categories and systems—not an exhaustive checklist or a definitive weapon count.

Personal weapons and ship weapons are separate rosters

Personal weapons

Handheld combat includes the groupings Bethesda documents for combat skills, including ballistic, melee, laser, EM and particle-beam weapons. A complete personal-weapon table would need to record each exact item name, class, damage family, ammunition or energy source where applicable, and whether it is a base model or unique variant. Acquisition details should be included only when supported by a reliable source.

Ship-mounted weapons

Ship hardware belongs in its own section, not mixed into a handheld list. Bethesda’s combat overview says ships can carry up to three different weapon types and describes their broad roles: lasers attack shields, ballistic weapons damage hull, missiles track locked targets, and EM weapons can damage systems and disable ships. These are ship-combat roles, not a list of every ship weapon model.

How weapons are upgraded

Workbench modifications

Weapon modifications are made at a Weapons Workbench using resources. The workbench shows available modifications and their requirements; some weapons have multiple slots for components. Bethesda’s Weapons Workbench guide notes: “Some weapons have multiple Mod Slots for some components.” A mod-slot count or available option can therefore depend on the weapon rather than applying uniformly across all models.

Rarity, effects and quality

Modifications are distinct from a weapon’s rarity or legendary effects. Bethesda’s gear guide describes Basic items as gray with no perks, Rare as teal with one perk, Epic as purple with two, and Legendary as gold with three. Treat those as effect-count and rarity labels; they are not a substitute for item names or weapon classes.

Free Lanes adds another layer. Bethesda announced the update for April 7, 2026, with X-Tech for gear customization, up to five legendary-effect rerolls before the full modifier list opens for selection, selectable tier-four effects for credits and X-Tech, and Superior and Exceptional quality tiers above Advanced. See Bethesda’s Free Lanes update information for the update’s stated mechanics. These are update-specific systems and should not be confused with the older gray/teal/purple/gold rarity labels.

Unique named weapons are not always ordinary upgrade candidates

Bethesda says unique weapons and armor may be awarded through quests or events and can have predefined legendary effects that prevent additional modifications. Its support examples include Voice of Set, Civil Unrest, Boomstick, Last Bastion, All Rise, Silver Lining, Trail Warden and Stand Fast. These are examples, not a complete unique-weapon roster; the cited material does not provide their acquisition locations or confirm that every example is a weapon.

When building a checklist, keep unique named variants distinct from base models. Record a fixed effect and modification limitation only where the item’s documentation supports it, rather than assuming every named weapon follows the same rule.

What a complete weapon checklist should include

A useful “every weapon” roster should state its version date and inclusion rules, then provide separate personal and ship tables. For each confirmed entry, it should capture:

  • Exact in-game name and whether it is a base model or unique variant.
  • Personal or ship use, plus the broad class and damage family.
  • Ammunition or energy source where relevant.
  • Acquisition or quest location only when established by a reliable source.
  • Relevant range, magazine or reload behavior, modification slots and special effects when verified.

It should also say whether it includes downloadable content, Creation content, throwable weapons and ship-mounted weapons. Without those boundaries and a checked, maintained item-by-item source, a headline promising “every weapon” overstates what has been established.
