If StarRupture keeps crashing on PC, start with the low-risk checks: restart Steam and your computer, install the latest game update, and compare your hardware with the game’s published requirements. Creepy Jar’s update notes document several crash bugs fixed in patches, but no single fix is established for every crash. Work through these steps in order, and avoid deleting save data without a backup.
Try these eight troubleshooting steps

Restart Steam and your PC
Close Steam completely, restart Windows, then reopen Steam and launch StarRupture. This is a simple diagnostic reset, not a confirmed StarRupture-specific cure.

Install the latest StarRupture update
Check Steam for a pending game update before changing system settings. The official StarRupture update and hotfix notes document specific crash fixes, so an update may address a known game-side problem.

If the game is on a hard disk or the drive lacks the required free space, check your storage and PC compatibility; an SSD is a stated requirement, not a universal crash remedy. Steam Support also recommends comparing a system with a game’s store requirements when it will not launch, noting that systems close to requirements can have launch or performance problems: Steam Support: Games do not run after “Preparing to Launch”.

Verify the installed game files in Steam
In Steam, open Library, right-click StarRupture, choose Properties, then Installed Files and Verify integrity of game files. Let the check finish and allow Steam to reacquire any files it reports as damaged or missing. This is a reversible general Steam troubleshooting check; a StarRupture-specific success rate has not been established.

Update your graphics driver from its maker
Check for a driver update using the official software or support channel for your NVIDIA or AMD graphics card. Restart Windows after installing it. If the crashes began immediately after a driver change, record that timing rather than assuming another update or rollback will fix the problem; no StarRupture-specific driver procedure is confirmed here.

Temporarily turn off overlays or background hooks
As a diagnostic test, disable optional overlays or software that hooks into games, one at a time, then relaunch StarRupture. If disabling one makes no difference, restore it before testing another so you can identify what changed. This is general troubleshooting, not a confirmed game-specific fix.

Do not delete saves as an early fix
A player discussion has suggested removing saved data for launch crashes, but this is anecdotal and could affect local saves or settings. Record the crash details and report persistent problems
Note whether the failure occurs before the menu, while loading a save, during a particular action, or after extended play. Include your game version, hardware, error text, and anything that changed shortly before the crash, such as an update, driver, save version, setting, or new software. The official notes show that specific crashes have been fixed; clear, reproducible details help distinguish a possible game bug from a local configuration issue.

When a crash may be a game bug
Official StarRupture update notes for versions 0.3.3 and 0.3.4 describe fixes for several distinct problems: loading certain saves from before version 0.3.3, placing buildings on existing platforms, and recalculating massive bases. The notes also mention a later hotfix addressing issues caused by a previous hotfix. These examples show that some crashes are game-side defects that require a patch; they do not identify the cause of every player’s crash. Creepy Jar’s update page says: “Thank you for your continuous feedback for the game’s Early Access – we are closely reviewing your comments and bug reports.”

- Crash before the menu: check for a game update, verify the files, and compare your system with the published requirements.
- Crash while loading a save: note the save’s age or version and whether the problem began after a game update. Do not delete the save without a backup.
- Crash during a specific action: write down the action and whether it can be reproduced, especially if it involves placing buildings or a large base.
- Crash after extended play: record how long the game ran and what was happening immediately before it failed; this detail is useful when reporting the issue.
These clues help organize troubleshooting, but they are not a diagnosis by themselves. Community suggestions such as switching to DX11 or clearing saved data are anecdotal, not verified fixes in the official material cited here.
