StarRupture is a PC Early Access survival game built around exploring a hostile planet, gathering resources, constructing and automating an industrial base, and fighting alien creatures. It supports solo play and co-op for up to four players. Its official materials promise a mysterious world filled with places and secrets to discover, but do not yet explain the central mystery or how much story is playable.
What kind of game is StarRupture?
Developed and published by Creepy Jar, StarRupture is a first-person, open-world game that combines survival, exploration, combat, and factory-style base building. Its central loop is to venture out for resources, expand an industrial base, automate production, and protect yourself and your operation on a dangerous planet. The official Steam listing describes a world affected by recurring cataclysms.
The mix matters: this is not presented as only a crafting survival game or only a factory simulator. Exploration and resource management feed into production, while hostile creatures make combat part of life beyond—and around—the base.
What is the dark mystery?
The “dark mystery” is best treated as a premise and mood rather than a disclosed plot. Creepy Jar describes a mysterious planet and points to places and secrets waiting to be discovered. The official pages cited here do not spell out the mystery itself or establish how much narrative content is playable in the current Early Access build. Expect exploration and unanswered questions in the setting, not a confirmed story outline.

Can you play StarRupture solo, and how many players are in co-op?
Yes. The official store description lists solo play as supported, while describing co-op for up to four players. Creepy Jar’s older playtest announcement framed the intended experience as a combination of building, exploration, survival, and combat, and said it should work solo as well as with friends. That announcement describes developer intent at the time; it is not a statement about current playtest availability.
Is StarRupture in Early Access?
Yes. Steam lists January 6, 2026 as the Early Access release date and warns that the game is incomplete and may change. Creepy Jar says it plans to keep the game in Early Access for about a year after launch; Steam currently displays 2027 as the planned exit year. Both are targets, not a guaranteed date for version 1.0.
Rank #2
The official news page lists Update 2 as available after Update 1 and the Early Access launch announcement. That makes the current preview one of a game receiving updates, not a description of a finished release.
What is StarRupture Update 2?
Creepy Jar calls Update 2 “Quality of Life” and says it focuses on factory building. The developer’s Update 2 announcement lists these changes:

- In the far future, countless alien species explore the galaxy in search of fortune and fame. The last interstellar war ended over fifty years ago and since then peace treaties have been in effect. Trade routes are set, civilizations flourish, and a new source of power was discovered – the Hexis crystals.
- Star Scrappers: Cave-in is the first game in the Star Scrappers series, set in a rich and exciting space-western universe, with a unique gameplay mechanics.
- Players take roles of Galactic entrepreneurs, rival mining bosses who compete in this difficult, sometimes even merciless industry.
- As a mining boss, you will have to recruit new mercenary laborers, use their skills, and collect precious artifacts. Your job is to excavate the Hexis crystals but never let your guard down though, as your competition is waiting for a chance to buy off your trusted men and steal the bounty from under your nose! The goal of the game is to get as many victory points as possible before the crystal mine collapses.
- Star Scrappers: Cave-in uses a unique game mechanics called “discard building”. With every action taken, players put their mercenaries into their discard piles. The order of the discarded cards matters because your top card is your Leader and gives you a special action at the beginning of your next turn. Beware, if your discard pile grows too much, it will draw the attention of other players who will not hesitate to steal cards from you – they’re just bribing your men!

- View corporation requirements and switch off head bob, camera shake, or sprint-related field-of-view changes.
Creepy Jar also says the update fixes hundreds of bugs. That is the developer’s reported count, not an independent verification of bug fixes or performance.
