State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition is worth playing if you enjoy building a survivor community, scavenging for supplies, and dealing with threats that emerge from your own survival decisions. Its repeatable survival loop and co-op are its strongest draws; the story and recurring resource runs are less compelling in the critical excerpts available. It is a better match for open-ended survival management than for players looking for a tightly authored narrative.

The appeal is the chain of practical decisions: who to bring into the community, what the base needs, and when it is worth risking a trip beyond its defenses. Other groups and zombie threats add pressure. The result is less a single linear journey than a survival sandbox organized around keeping a community going.
What do the reviews say?
Review indicators point in different directions and should be read as separate snapshots, not combined into a single verdict. Steam’s page, accessed October 8, 2026, showed 85% positive among 21,942 English-language user reviews and 80% positive among 658 recent English-language reviews. Selected Metacritic review excerpts capture the trade-offs behind that mixed picture. One praises co-op, endgame, and replayability while criticizing the story, voice work, and animation. Other excerpts fault technical issues, repetitive scavenging, or underwhelming gameplay. Is State of Decay 2 good solo?
Yes, solo play is a supported way to experience the community-management and scavenging loop. The central activities—recruiting survivors, improving a base, gathering resources, and defending against threats—do not require a co-op partner. Whether it suits you solo depends more on your appetite for repeating survival tasks than on the need for a group: the reviewed criticism specifically flags scavenging repetition.
Can you play State of Decay 2 co-op?
Yes. Steam describes online co-op in which you visit a friend’s community and help out, as well as a four-player siege-defense mode. The Xbox listing describes two-to-four-player co-op and cross-platform play. What is included in Juggernaut Edition?
Juggernaut Edition launched on March 13, 2020, and is the edition described by the current Steam and Xbox listings. It brings together the base game and listed add-ons, including Homecoming, Heartland, Daybreak, and Independence. The Xbox US store page checked lists Game Pass inclusion and cloud play, but subscription tiers, regional eligibility, and terms can change.
