The 2026 Steam Autumn Sale runs October 1–8, so October 8 is its final announced day—not a date to expect it to begin. Steam’s next listed seasonal sale is the Winter Sale, December 17, 2026–January 4, 2027. If you’re deciding whether to buy a game now or wait, check its current price in your regional Steam store and weigh that against how long you’re willing to wait; no sale calendar guarantees a lower price on a particular game.
When does the Steam Autumn Sale 2026 end?
Steam’s official event calendar lists the Autumn Sale for October 1–8, 2026, and the Winter Sale for December 17, 2026–January 4, 2027. As of October 8, the Autumn Sale is on its final announced date. Steam’s calendar describes seasonal sales as happening four times a year. Steamworks’ event calendar is the authoritative place to check announced dates.
Steam’s schedule gives the event window, not a promise that every game will be discounted or that any particular title will reach a certain price. Check the game’s live store page for the price and offer available to you.
What should you expect to find on sale?
A wide selection, including inexpensive games
PC Gamer reported that more than 44,000 games were available for $5 or less during the 2026 Autumn Sale. That is the publication’s report about this sale, not a Valve statistic or a permanent count; availability and prices can vary by region and change over time. Recent releases may not have the deepest discounts
PC Gamer’s sale guide reports that Autumn and Winter sales follow close to the fall release season and tend to include fewer recent games with large discounts. Treat that as a general tendency, not a prediction for any individual game: a title’s release date and its actual offer matter more than the season alone. Featured options can refresh
Steam says featured options refresh regularly during a sale. That describes what appears in the store’s discovery and presentation areas; it does not establish that sale prices themselves change during the event. If you have a specific game in mind, use its store page rather than relying on a featured section to surface it. Steamworks’ seasonal-sales documentation explains the platform’s sale mechanics.
How do Steam wishlist sale notifications work?
Steamworks says an email notification is automatically triggered when a game on a player’s wishlist receives a discount of 20% or more. To use that alert, add games you’re considering to your Steam wishlist and make sure you can receive Steam emails. A notification is a prompt to check the offer, not a guarantee that the price meets your personal target. Confirm the current price on the game’s store page. Steamworks documents the 20% notification threshold.
Which games are eligible to take part?
Steamworks says a game becomes eligible for a seasonal-sale discount once it was released at least 30 days before the sale. Eligibility does not require the developer to participate, and it does not set the discount amount. A recent game can therefore be absent from the sale or receive an offer that differs from what you hoped. Steam’s event guidance covers the timing rule.

Should you buy now or wait for the next sale?
Use the price you can see now, your own target price, and how soon you expect to play as the decision points. Compare the offer with any price history or other trusted reference you use, and consider the game’s reviews, your hardware compatibility, and whether you are likely to start it soon. A large percentage off is not automatically a good purchase if the final price is still above your target or the game will sit unplayed.
If you skip an Autumn Sale offer, the next seasonal sale currently listed by Steam is December 17, 2026–January 4, 2027. Waiting may create another opportunity to check, but Steam does not promise that a specific game will be discounted then—or that its price will be lower. Wishlist alerts can help you notice qualifying discounts in the meantime.

What about Steam Deck deals?
There is a historical precedent, but it is not evidence of a 2026 promotion: Steam’s September 29, 2025 announcement included a 20% discount on Steam Deck 256GB LCD models, ending October 6 at 10 a.m. PT. That offer belonged to the 2025 sale and should not be treated as a current deal. Steam’s 2025 Autumn Sale announcement records the past promotion.
