Steam did not run a separate, Steam-wide Black Friday sale in 2025. Instead, Valve scheduled themed Black Friday Special Offers on the year-round Discounts and Events page from November 24 through December 1, 2025. The larger named seasonal event was the Steam Autumn Sale, which ran September 29 to October 6 and included a documented 20% discount on 256GB LCD Steam Deck models. Both events are over.
Steam’s 2025 holiday-sale dates
| Event | Dates | What Valve documented |
|---|---|---|
| Autumn Sale 2025 | September 29–October 6, 2025, ending at 10 a.m. Pacific Time | A named seasonal sale with deals across the store on games of all kinds; Valve also announced 20% off Steam Deck 256GB LCD models. |
| Black Friday Special Offers 2025 | November 24–December 1, 2025 | A themed presentation on Steam’s existing Discounts and Events page, not a separate Steam-hosted seasonal sale. |
| Winter Sale 2025 | December 18, 2025–January 5, 2026 | The next named seasonal sale in Valve’s published second-half schedule. |
Valve’s second-half 2025 calendar placed the Autumn Sale well before Black Friday week. Calling the September event a Black Friday sale is therefore inaccurate.

What “Black Friday Special Offers” meant
In a Steamworks notice reproduced in a November 2025 Steam Community discussion, Valve said Steam would not host “a Black Friday sale of its own.” Instead, Black Friday Special Offers were used to surface discounted titles of all genres with extra Black Friday artwork and theming on the normal Specials page.
That distinction matters: the notice described an opportunity for games to be discounted and promoted, not a promise that every Steam title would be on sale or that Valve would publish one complete Black Friday catalogue. The notice also said these promotions followed Steam’s usual discount cooldowns and were not exempt in the way seasonal sales are.

How the Autumn Sale differed
A named seasonal event
Steamworks describes four Steam-wide seasonal sales each year. Released games can participate, and Valve’s upcoming-events documentation says a game released at least 30 days before an event may participate with a discount. That 30-day figure is a developer eligibility rule, not a consumer savings statistic.
Storewide presentation
The Autumn Sale announcement presented deals across the entire store on games of all kinds. Steam can also surface discounts through Specials sections based on tags, popularity and recommendations, so visibility does not mean every game received the same promotion or discount level.

A documented hardware offer
Valve’s Steam News announcement specifically listed “Steam Deck 256GB LCD models (20% off).” The announcement stated that this offer, like the Autumn Sale, ended October 6, 2025 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. It is historical information; it does not establish a current price, stock position or retailer listing.
What is—and is not—known about the game deals
- The available Valve announcements establish the dates and format of the two 2025 promotions.
- They do not provide an itemized list of every game included in Black Friday Special Offers.
- They do not establish a total number of discounted games, aggregate savings, sales volume or a lowest-ever price.
- They do not support ranking a particular title as the “best” Black Friday deal.
Any article naming the strongest 2025 bargain would need title-specific price history and catalogue evidence beyond these announcements.

Why readers saw conflicting dates
Search results often combined three different Steam events: the September–October Autumn Sale, the November 24–December 1 Black Friday Special Offers period and the December 18–January 5 Winter Sale. They were separate promotions with different formats. The question “does Steam have a Black Friday sale?” has a qualified answer: Steam offered Black Friday-themed specials, but Valve explicitly said it was not running a separate Black Friday seasonal sale.
What to check when evaluating a future Steam holiday offer
- Check whether Valve labels the event a seasonal sale or a themed Specials-page promotion.
- Verify the exact start and end time, including the time zone; the 2025 Autumn Sale ended at 10 a.m. Pacific Time.
- Use the individual game’s store page to confirm the actual discount and edition.
- Compare the current price with a reliable price-history record before calling it a record or best-ever deal.
- For hardware such as Steam Deck, confirm the model, seller, region, stock and end date separately; a past Valve discount does not establish a current offer.
The Bottom Line
Steam’s 2025 Black Friday promotion was a themed Specials-page period from November 24 to December 1, not a standalone Steam-wide sale. The Autumn Sale was the earlier named seasonal event, running September 29 to October 6 and including a temporary 20% Steam Deck 256GB LCD discount.
