There is no storefront that is always cheapest or best for every PC game. Compare the same edition’s current checkout price in your region, then weigh refund eligibility, regional restrictions, and how that specific game handles DRM and its client. The policies differ most clearly on refunds: Steam and Epic generally use a two-week and two-hour framework for eligible games, while GOG’s voluntary policy allows requests for up to 30 days, including after play, subject to its discretion.
How to compare the price of the same game
A useful comparison is not just the price shown on a store page. Check the same game edition, in the same region and currency, at roughly the same time, and compare the final checkout total, including any applicable taxes. Discounts and prices can change, so a price comparison without a title, edition, market, and date cannot establish which store is cheaper.
Regional pricing is not measured the same way by every storefront. Epic says it supports regional pricing in “more than 190 countries and over 30 territories.” Its developer documentation separately describes support for 43 local currencies and publisher-created custom prices. Countries and territories are not currencies, so those figures should not be treated as a like-for-like ranking against Steam or GOG. GOG announced Turkish lira support and region-specific pricing updates for Türkiye on 3 June 2025. That announcement does not mean every title has uniform local pricing: GOG’s agreement describes different pricing schemes across catalog products. Refund policies: the main differences

Valve describes Steam’s approach this way: “You can request a refund for nearly any purchase on Steam—for any reason.” That broad opening is subject to the terms for the product type and the stated refund rules. Epic’s eligibility labels matter, while GOG’s longer window is a voluntary policy rather than a guarantee that every request will be accepted. Check the live terms and the individual product listing before buying; these store policies do not replace statutory consumer rights.
Regional availability and restrictions
Regional pricing does not guarantee that a game is available in every market. Steam says restrictions are game-specific, so check the product page for the relevant country or region rather than assuming a restriction applies across the whole store. Steam support on region restrictions.

Epic’s regional-pricing statement and GOG’s localized pricing updates describe pricing support, not universal availability or a promise of the same price across titles. Before purchasing, verify that the game and chosen edition can be bought and activated in your region, and review any country-specific conditions shown at checkout.
DRM, the client, and access after purchase
GOG markets its catalog as DRM-free and says GOG GALAXY is optional. It lists features such as cloud saves, update rollbacks, and achievements for the client. This describes GOG’s stated access model; it does not establish that every game sold elsewhere requires an always-online connection or uses the same DRM. Which store should you choose?
- Choose by current total: compare the same edition and final checkout amount in your region on the day you intend to buy.
- Choose by refund flexibility: note the applicable deadline, playtime limit, product eligibility label, and any stated discretion.
- Choose by access model: check whether the specific game’s DRM and client requirements fit how you want to install and play it.
- Choose by availability: confirm regional purchase and activation conditions on that game’s listing.
The best choice depends on the particular game and the buyer’s priorities. No general cheapest-store or universally superior-store conclusion follows from these policies alone.
