Steam Frame signups are closed. Valve accepted entries from September 14 through September 17, 2026, then randomized the order on September 17 and began sending purchase invitations on September 18. A reservation is only a place in line: you have not paid and do not yet own a headset. Valve’s October 9 update says logged-in customers can view an estimated order window on the Steam Frame product page; the displayed windows were “by December” or “in 2027,” depending on the queue, model, and region. These are estimates rather than guaranteed delivery dates.
Use the reservation page at Valve’s Steam Frame product page to check your status. If Valve emails you a purchase offer, you have 72 hours to complete it or the reservation is canceled and offered to someone else.

Is Steam Frame preorder signup still open?
No. The one-time signup period ended at 10 a.m. Pacific on September 17, 2026. Valve randomized everyone who signed up by that deadline instead of ranking entries strictly by the second they arrived. Signups made after the randomization are accepted only at the end of the applicable waitlist, so joining now cannot improve the position created by the September 17 draw. Valve describes the signup and randomization rules in its Steam Frame FAQ.

The system was designed to reduce the advantage of bots, unusually fast connections, and people able to refresh at the instant a product page opens. It is not a normal first-come, first-served launch. The September 17 event was a single randomization; Valve has not announced another lottery for the original pool.

The October 9 announcement is at Steam Hardware’s official announcement page. It does not provide an individual guaranteed ship date, a public queue-position number, or a date when every waitlisted customer will receive an offer.
What does a Steam Frame reservation mean?
A reservation means Valve has placed your signup in a purchase queue and intends to offer you a unit when your turn and available inventory align. It is not a completed preorder, payment, shipment confirmation, or ownership transfer. You must wait for a separate purchase email and then finish checkout yourself.
Reservation queue versus waitlist

Valve says it works through a region’s reservation queue before moving to that region’s waitlist. A waitlisted customer therefore does not leapfrog someone who still holds a reservation. Movement can differ between regions because each region has its own queues and supply.

At signup, customers chose either the 256GB or 1TB Steam Frame. Valve maintains a separate list for each capacity. It also keeps separate lists for North America, the United Kingdom and European Union, and Australia. Steam automatically assigns the signup to the region where the customer is located. Your model choice and regional list therefore both affect the timing shown for you.

How do I check my expected Steam Frame order window?
- Sign in to the Steam account used for the signup.
- Open the Steam Frame product page at store.steampowered.com/hardware/steamframe.
- Look for the reservation or order-status area on that page while you are logged in.
- Read the expected order window shown for your account. Valve’s October 9 update used “by December” and “in 2027” as examples of the windows displayed at that time.
Do not convert a broad window into a personal delivery promise. “By December” does not identify a particular day, and “in 2027” does not establish which month your purchase email will arrive. Queue positions, model allocations, regional inventory, and cancellations can all produce different outcomes. Valve has not published the number of units in each queue or an individual’s numerical position.
When will Valve send the purchase email?
Valve began sending purchase invitations on September 18, 2026, in the randomized order. The company has not published a universal date for every reservation holder. The most reliable indication is the order window shown on your logged-in product page, supplemented by the email address attached to your Steam account.
A reservation email and a purchase email are different events. The reservation notification tells you that you have a place in the purchasing process. The later purchase message is the invitation that lets you complete checkout. Until checkout is completed, Valve has not recorded a finished purchase for you.

When the purchase email arrives, Valve gives you 72 hours to place the order. Valve’s FAQ states: “You’ll then have 72 hours to complete the purchase before we cancel your reservation and move on to the next person in the queue.” The countdown applies to completing the purchase, not merely opening the message or visiting the product page. If the deadline expires, Valve cancels that reservation and offers the opportunity to the next person.

- Check the inbox and spam or promotions folders for the Steam account’s email address.
- Open the purchase link promptly and confirm the model, delivery address, payment method, taxes, and shipping charges before submitting.
- Do not assume that an uncompleted checkout preserves your place after the 72-hour period.
Can I cancel, leave the waitlist, or change my model?
Canceling a reservation
You can cancel a reservation, but doing so releases your place in the queue. Valve does not promise that the spot can be restored, transferred to another person, or held for a later production batch. If you still want a Steam Frame, canceling should be treated as giving up that reservation.
Leaving the waitlist
Leaving the waitlist likewise releases the place created by your signup. If Valve later has capacity and advances the list, a person who has left is no longer in line for that offer.
Changing from 256GB to 1TB (or the reverse)
After the September 17 randomization and notification of your status, Valve does not allow a model change. The 256GB and 1TB versions have separate queues, so switching after the draw would alter the position Valve assigned to you. The published FAQ does not provide a way to preserve the original position while moving to the other capacity.
How does the waitlist move?
Valve can promote waitlisted customers when a reservation is canceled, expires after its 72-hour purchase period, or otherwise becomes available. Promotions proceed within the relevant regional system. Valve says it reaches the end of that region’s reservation queue before processing its waitlist, which means a waitlist signup made later cannot overtake an active reservation.

There is no published all-waitlist completion date. A waitlist position is not a guarantee that Valve will eventually offer a unit, and the public announcements do not state how many headsets were allocated to any model or region. Keep checking the product page and your email if you remain interested, but do not infer a delivery year from another customer’s status.
Where can Steam Frame be purchased?
Valve’s product information says Steam ships directly to the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the European Union, and Australia. Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong use KOMODO, which Valve identifies as an authorized distributor. Valve said South Korea would ship at a later date.
Distribution arrangements can change. Customers outside the direct-shipping areas should check the current instructions on the official product page or with the authorized distributor before relying on an older regional description. A reservation in one region does not establish shipping eligibility in another, and regional queue timing is not interchangeable.

Which Steam Frame model did I reserve, and what does it cost?
The signup offered two storage capacities. Valve’s published launch prices below are 2026 figures, not a promise that a later order will show the same tax, currency conversion, or shipping total. Valve listed local prices in several currencies and said prices included VAT where applicable.

The product page names a 45W power supply, an Ergonomic Accessories Kit, an Accessory Replacement Kit, and Zenni prescription inserts among the accessories associated with Steam Frame purchasing. Availability and pricing for those items can vary; the reservation rules do not require adding any of them.
What should I do if my status or email is unclear?
The product page shows no window
Confirm that you are signed in to the same Steam account used for the September signup. A different account will not display that reservation’s information. If the account is correct, rely on the status shown on the product page rather than assuming that a general announcement applies to your model and region.
I received a waitlist message but expected a reservation
The randomized draw determined whether your entry fell within the initial units available for your selected capacity and region. A waitlist message does not mean the signup failed; it means the entry was beyond the initial reservation allocation. Keep the waitlist only if you are willing to accept an offer later, because leaving it releases the place.

I missed the 72-hour deadline
Valve’s stated process is cancellation followed by an offer to the next person. The FAQ does not promise reinstatement or a grace period. Check the account page for any current status, but do not assume the original reservation can be recovered.
I want the other storage capacity
Model changes are not available after randomization and status notification. The practical choices are to keep the assigned queue position or cancel and release it; Valve does not describe a protected transfer from one model list to the other.
I live outside the direct-shipping regions
Review the current regional instructions on Valve’s product page. Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong are identified with KOMODO distribution, while South Korea was listed for later shipping. Do not use another region’s queue or delivery estimate as a substitute for your own.
Steam Frame preorder checklist
- Verify whether your Steam account shows a reservation or waitlist status.
- Record the assigned capacity: 256GB or 1TB.
- Check the expected order window on the logged-in product page, recognizing that it is an estimate.
- Keep the account email accessible and monitor spam filtering.
- If a purchase email arrives, complete checkout within 72 hours.
- Before submitting payment, confirm the shipping country, address, currency, taxes, and any accessories.
- If you cancel or leave the waitlist, assume the released place will not be recoverable.
