A Reddit poster says they tested more than 100 games while targeting 60 FPS, but the surfaced post does not provide enough game-by-game data or protocol detail to independently check that total. Published reviews show why the answer has to be judged title by title: demanding games can fall well below 60 FPS at 1080p Ultra, while a less demanding older game can reach a 60 FPS cap at 4K.
What the 100-plus-game claim does—and does not—establish
The author of a Reddit post dated October 11, 2026, says they tested more than 100 Steam Machine games over two months, targeting 60 FPS and assessing visual quality. The author also describes preferring 1440p at 60 FPS over 4K at 60 FPS when the 4K image looked poor. That is one tester’s stated approach, not a universal recommendation or an independently verified benchmark result.

The surfaced post does not establish the complete game list, exact versions, settings at each resolution, chosen scenes, time spent testing each title or repeatability. Without those details, its headline count cannot tell readers how many games actually held 60 FPS, how often they did so, or whether a result used native 4K rendering, upscaling or reduced settings.

What published review results show
The available review figures demonstrate the range of outcomes, not an overall success rate. Each result below belongs to its named game and settings. The measurements are not interchangeable, and missing details should not be inferred.
| Game and source | Resolution and settings | Reported result | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starfield — GamersNexus | 1080p, Ultra | 41 FPS average | Below the 60 FPS target in this tested configuration. The cited figure is an average, not a guarantee about every scene or frame-time low. |
| Oblivion Remastered — GamersNexus | 1080p, Ultra, without upscaling | 27 FPS average | Also below target under the specified conditions; the result should not be generalized to other presets or upscaling modes. |
| SoulCalibur 6 — Tom’s Hardware | 4K, maximum graphics settings | Reached the game’s 60 FPS frame limit | Shows that 4K/60 is possible in a particular title and configuration. The review notes that this 2018 game is not especially demanding. |
| Cyberpunk 2077 — Tom’s Hardware | Multiple resolutions tested using settings designed for Steam Deck comparisons; the cited example is the Steam Deck preset | The reviewer reports that some titles did not run at 4K; this example is cited among them. No single FPS figure is stated here. | Resolution and preset matter; the cited result does not establish performance with every preset or upscaling option. |
Tom’s Hardware tested at 1080p, 1440p and 4K, but the results are tied to its chosen comparison settings. GamersNexus reports Linux performance logging with MangoHud and cautions that comparison with Windows PresentMon involves different tools, operating systems and graphics pipelines. Cross-review figures therefore should not be combined as if they came from one identical test bench and method.

Why “60 FPS from 1080p to 4K” needs qualification
Output resolution is not necessarily render resolution
Valve representatives told Tom’s Hardware that 1080p is the Steam Machine’s default game resolution to provide a good out-of-box experience. The reviewer says maximum resolution can be changed globally or per game. As a result, connecting a 4K display does not by itself show that a game is rendering or outputting at 4K. A useful benchmark needs to state the resolution actually selected and, where available, the internal rendering resolution.

Upscaling can also change the relationship between the game’s internal rendering resolution and the displayed output resolution. Unless a test names the upscaling method and quality mode—or confirms native rendering—“4K” alone is not enough to describe the workload or image quality.

A target is not a measured outcome
“Targeting 60 FPS” describes what a tester aimed for, not proof that every game held that rate. An average FPS figure also does not show whether performance was steady: frame-time lows, repeatable scenes and test duration matter when judging whether a game maintains its target in play.
Valve describes the Steam Machine as roughly six times more powerful than Steam Deck, but that is Valve’s device characterization, not an FPS multiplier. It cannot predict a specific game’s frame rate across different resolutions, graphics presets or upscaling settings.

How to judge a Steam Machine 60 FPS result
For a meaningful comparison, look for the details that determine what was tested and what the number means:
- Game and build: identify the title and, if reported, its version.
- Resolution: distinguish display/output resolution from internal rendering resolution.
- Graphics settings: name the preset and any changed options.
- Upscaling: specify the method and quality mode, or say that upscaling was not used.
- Performance data: give average FPS and frame-time lows when available, and explain whether the target was sustained in a repeatable scene.
- Test method: include the operating system, measurement tool and test scene; results collected with different pipelines are not directly equivalent.
- Image quality: consider whether the settings that reach the target still look acceptable to the player.
When one of those fields is missing, treat the result as a report under incomplete conditions rather than filling in the gap. In particular, do not turn mixed reports for different games into a percentage of the Steam library that runs at 60 FPS: the cited material does not establish such a rate at 1080p, 1440p or 4K.

Sources and scope
Valve’s Steam Machine documentation describes the device as a small-form-factor gaming system running SteamOS with a semi-custom AMD desktop-class CPU and GPU, and gives Valve’s own comparison with Steam Deck. The game-specific figures here come from the named Tom’s Hardware and GamersNexus reviews; the broader game counts come from a mixed-source tracker and an individual Reddit author’s claim. Those sources answer different questions and should not be treated as one standardized dataset.
