Steam Survey: GTX 1060 Still Appears as Windows 11 Leads

Valve’s September 2026 survey still lists the GTX 1060, but its separate GPU and Windows tables cannot show whether GTX 1060 owners are migrating to Windows 11.

Valve’s September 2026 Steam Hardware & Software Survey puts Windows 11 64-bit at 75.08% of Windows users represented in its Windows-version table, while the GeForce GTX 1060 accounts for 2.88% in the survey’s GPU table. Those separate totals show that both remain in Steam’s results; they do not show that GTX 1060 owners are the people moving to Windows 11. And the GTX 1060 is about ten years old, not six: NVIDIA announced it in July 2016.

What the September 2026 Steam Survey reports

Valve’s Windows-version table shows Windows 11 64-bit at 75.08%, down 0.45 percentage points from August. Windows 10 64-bit stands at 24.85%, up 0.48 points. These are shares in the survey’s Windows-version results, not a count of every PC gamer or every Windows installation. Valve’s Steam Hardware & Software Survey is conducted monthly, and participation is optional and anonymous.

In a separate GPU table, Valve lists the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 at 2.88%. That figure indicates the card remains represented among Steam survey participants, but it is not a count of all GTX 1060 cards still in use.

Why the figures do not prove GTX 1060 owners are migrating

The survey publishes aggregate operating-system and GPU results in separate tables. It does not provide a cross-tabulation showing which operating system users of a particular GPU run. As a result, the figures cannot establish how many GTX 1060 owners use Windows 11, whether that group is growing, or whether GPU owners as a whole are driving the operating-system change.

The GTX 1060 is about ten years old

NVIDIA announced the GeForce GTX 1060 on July 7, 2016, making it roughly ten years old as of October 2026. NVIDIA’s launch announcement listed a 120-watt power rating. That launch-era figure should not be treated as a guarantee for every GTX 1060 variant or custom board. NVIDIA’s GTX 1060 announcement

What to check if you still use one

The survey’s GPU share says nothing about a specific card’s condition or whether it suits a particular game. If you are checking or replacing an existing card, identify its exact model and compare its requirements with your system and intended games.
