Why the deadline was August 21 in some places
The giveaway ran from August 13, 2026, at 17:00 UTC, until August 20 at 17:00 UTC. That cutoff was August 20 at 19:00 CEST and August 21 at 01:00 HKT. The headline’s August 21 date reflects local-time conversion; the deadline in UTC was August 20. FinalBoss.io reported the promotion dates and time-zone conversions.

Which game the offer covered
The free item was the standalone Deponia, not Deponia: The Complete Journey. The compilation and its additional sequel content were not included. Steam identifies Deponia as a single-player point-and-click adventure developed and published by Daedalic Entertainment, released August 6, 2012. Its story follows Rufus and Goal in a world divided between a garbage-covered surface and a floating city. Steam’s store listing describes its comic, puzzle-focused adventure and lists features including achievements, trading cards, Steam Cloud, and Family Sharing.
What “free to keep” meant
This was a limited-time account claim, not a free trial or a free-to-play release. During the offer, a completed claim attached the game to the claimant’s Steam account; downloading or installing it before the deadline was not required. The offer guide advised signing into the account that should own the game, checking that the standalone listing showed a 100% discount and zero-cost checkout, and verifying the entitlement in the library. Those steps applied only while the promotion was active.

Steam’s general explanation of free-to-play games describes a different access model: those games can be downloaded without a subscription or credit card. That does not make this expired Deponia giveaway available now. Steam Support’s free-to-play FAQ covers that separate category.
