First, a category correction: SteelSeries Aeon Pro is a gaming controller, not a headset. It should not be confused with the company’s Arctis or Nova headsets. The controller includes a base station, two replaceable batteries and a USB-C charging cable, so you can charge it directly, dock it, or keep playing by alternating batteries.
This FAQ explains the documented charging methods, battery-life estimates, Bluetooth setup and platform support. Runtime figures are SteelSeries estimates rather than independent test results, and the official material does not state how long a completely empty battery takes to reach full charge.

What the Aeon Pro is—and what it is not
Aeon Pro is a wireless gaming controller built around a dual-battery system. The package includes the controller, a base station, two replaceable batteries and a USB-C-to-USB-A cable. One battery can power the controller while the other charges in a dedicated slot on the base station.
That design is different from a headset charging routine. You are not looking for an audio headset’s ear-cup connector or a headset battery compartment. Charging and compatibility depend on the controller’s top USB-C port, its pogo contacts on the underside and the connection mode selected for the platform.

How to charge the Aeon Pro controller
Charge through the top USB-C port
- Connect the included USB-C-to-USB-A cable to the USB-C charging port on top of the controller.
- Connect the USB-A end to a suitable power source.
- Leave the controller connected until you are ready to use it, or disconnect it and continue wirelessly through the appropriate receiver or Bluetooth mode.
The manual documents this as a charging method but does not specify a full-charge time. Because no official duration is published, do not treat a particular number of minutes or hours as a guaranteed charging period.
Charge while the controller sits on the base station
- Place the controller on the included base station.
- Align the controller’s pogo charging contacts with the pogo pins on the dock.
- Check that the controller is seated squarely so the contacts remain connected.
The base station is both a charging dock and the wireless link used for Xbox. Docking the controller charges its installed battery; it does not eliminate the need to keep the dock powered when you want to charge a spare battery in the separate slot.
Charge a spare battery separately
The base station has a dedicated battery charging slot. Insert the spare battery into that slot while the controller uses the other battery. This is the part of the system that makes quick battery swaps practical: you can finish a session, replace the depleted cell, and put the depleted one into the dock instead of waiting for the controller itself to recharge.

How to swap the Aeon Pro batteries
- Stop using the controller and remove the battery-compartment cover.
- Take out the depleted battery.
- Insert the charged spare battery from the base-station slot.
- Replace the compartment cover and confirm the controller powers normally.
- Put the depleted battery into the charging slot on the base station.
Two replaceable batteries are included, according to the manual. SteelSeries says Aeon Pro batteries are compatible with batteries for Arctis Nova Pro, Arctis Nova Pro Omni and Arctis Nova Elite products. Compatibility should still be checked on the exact replacement listing before purchase; a similar-looking battery is not automatically a supported one.

SteelSeries Support describes the arrangement this way: "With the Aeon Pro controller, the battery life is extended endlessly using our dual battery system." That wording refers to alternating two charged batteries. It does not mean that one battery can run indefinitely without being recharged.
How long does the battery last?
SteelSeries publishes different estimates for different connection setups. The figures below are company estimates; the support material does not display a publication year, and no independent battery test is represented here.
| Setup | Published estimate | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Headset plugged into the controller | 12.5 hours | SteelSeries estimate; actual time depends on setup |
| Connected to Xbox | 12.5 hours | SteelSeries estimate; Xbox uses the base station |
| Connected to PC without a headset plugged in | 11.5 hours | SteelSeries estimate for this specific PC configuration |
| Bluetooth connection | 14 hours | SteelSeries estimate; actual time depends on setup |
The numbers are not a universal promise for every game, volume level or accessory combination. A PC session without a headset is listed at 11.5 hours, while Bluetooth is listed at 14 hours. If your setup changes, use the estimate for the closest documented configuration rather than assuming the longest figure applies.

SteelSeries attributes the difference partly to polling rate. PC use without a headset uses a 1000 Hz polling rate. Console use, or using a headset plugged into the controller, locks polling at 250 Hz and therefore saves some battery according to the manufacturer’s explanation.

- Compatible with Android smartphones, tablets, Windows PCs, Chromebooks, and other supported Bluetooth devices.
- Delivers a reliable wireless connection for responsive and low-latency gaming.
- Equipped with Hall Effect analog sticks and clickable L3/R3 thumbsticks for accurate control and durability.
- Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery provides extended playtime on a single charge.

This is why the Xbox and headset-connected figures are both 12.5 hours, while the PC-without-headset estimate is 11.5 hours. Bluetooth is listed separately at 14 hours. These are operating-mode estimates, not measurements of battery capacity under a single laboratory condition.
How to pair Aeon Pro over Bluetooth
- Turn on the controller.
- Hold the Menu and View buttons together for three seconds to open the controller’s OLED menu.
- Enter System Select.
- Choose Bluetooth.
- Open Bluetooth settings on the computer, phone, tablet, Mac or smart TV you want to use.
- Select Aeon Pro from the device list.
Bluetooth is intended for PC and mobile gaming in SteelSeries’ support documentation. The manual’s compatibility matrix also lists iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android and smart TVs for Bluetooth. If the device does not appear, repeat the documented three-second Menu-and-View sequence and check the device’s Bluetooth list again.
Which platforms work with each connection mode?
Support is connection-specific. A platform appearing in one row does not mean every wireless method works on that platform.

Can Aeon Pro work without the base station?
Yes, but the answer depends on the platform and connection. PC can use Bluetooth, and the manual lists Bluetooth support for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, Android and smart TVs. USB-C wired operation is also documented for Xbox, PC and those additional mobile and computer platforms.
Xbox is the important exception for wireless use: SteelSeries says Xbox connects through the base station. Do not assume that putting the controller into Bluetooth mode will pair it with an Xbox. For Xbox wireless play, keep the base station connected; for a wired setup, use the documented USB-C connection.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Choosing a connection for your setup
- Xbox wireless: use the base station’s 2.4 GHz connection.
- PC wireless: choose the base station for 2.4 GHz or Bluetooth when your PC supports it.
- Phone, tablet, Mac or smart TV: Bluetooth is the wireless method named for these devices; the manual also lists USB-C wired support for iOS, iPadOS, macOS and Android, but not smart TVs.
- Lowest-dependency option: use USB-C wired connection on a platform listed in the manual’s wired row.
Connection mode also changes the relevant battery estimate. Bluetooth is listed at 14 hours, Xbox at 12.5 hours, PC without a headset at 11.5 hours and headset-connected use at 12.5 hours.
Troubleshooting charging and pairing
The controller does not charge on the dock
- Remove and reseat the controller so its pogo contacts meet the dock’s pogo pins.
- If docking still does not charge it, connect the included cable to the top USB-C port and a power source.
- To keep playing while charging another cell, move the spare battery into the controller and place the depleted one in the dock’s battery slot.
The spare battery is not charging
Use the base station’s separate battery slot rather than placing the cell beside the controller. Remove and reinsert the battery so it sits fully in the slot. The official material does not publish a full-charge duration, so an exact wait time cannot be confirmed from the manual.

The controller is missing from a Bluetooth list
- Turn the controller on.
- Hold Menu and View for three seconds.
- Open System Select and choose Bluetooth.
- Refresh the host device’s Bluetooth menu and select Aeon Pro.
If you are trying to connect to Xbox wirelessly, switch to the base-station method instead; Bluetooth is not the Xbox wireless path documented by SteelSeries.
What is included, and what might need replacing?
The controller package includes the base station, two replaceable batteries and a USB-C-to-USB-A charging cable. That means a separate cable is only relevant if the included one is lost or damaged. The dock is also included, so buying a separate charging dock is unnecessary for a standard package.
A replacement battery can be useful for owners who want an additional charged cell, but verify the listing’s exact Aeon Pro compatibility. SteelSeries identifies compatibility with batteries for Arctis Nova Pro, Arctis Nova Pro Omni and Arctis Nova Elite, yet the name on a retailer listing alone is not proof that the part is correct.
Practical battery routine
- Keep one battery in the controller and one in the base-station charging slot.
- Before a long session, install the charged cell and leave the other one charging.
- When the controller’s battery is depleted, swap the cells rather than waiting beside a USB cable.
- Return the depleted battery to the dock immediately so the rotation remains ready for the next session.
This routine is the real benefit of Aeon Pro’s dual-battery design. It extends usable play time by cycling two batteries, while each individual cell still has a finite runtime represented by SteelSeries’ estimates.
