Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf your SteelSeries Arctis GameBuds will not connect to an Xbox, first confirm that you own the Xbox edition. The Xbox model uses a dual-mode dongle for its 2.4 GHz wireless connection; the PlayStation model is described for PlayStation and PC, and SteelSeries explicitly says the Glorange edition is not compatible with Xbox. Bluetooth pairing or a replacement transmitter cannot turn an incompatible edition into an Xbox headset.
Once you have confirmed the Xbox model, use its supplied 2.4 GHz dongle, re-pair the earbuds if necessary, and reset them only if pairing still fails. The steps below follow SteelSeries’ documented procedures and separate Bluetooth pairing from the Xbox wireless path.

Why won’t my Arctis GameBuds connect to my Xbox?
The most common cause is using an edition that does not support Xbox. “Arctis GameBuds” is not enough information by itself: SteelSeries sells platform-specific versions with different transmitter capabilities. Before repeating button presses or changing Xbox settings, identify the exact GameBuds edition and the dongle that came with it.
Recommended Free Tools
A second common cause is being in the wrong wireless mode. GameBuds can enter Bluetooth pairing mode and 2.4 GHz dongle-pairing mode, and the LED colors are different. Seeing a blue light does not mean the Xbox wireless link is complete.

Identify the exact edition first
Check the product name on the box, purchase record, case or earbuds, and the markings on the wireless dongle. SteelSeries describes the Xbox edition as using a dual-mode dongle. Its PlayStation edition is described as a single-mode dongle for PlayStation and PC. The distinction is built into the headset-and-transmitter combination, not just a software setting.
| Edition | Documented platform information | Dongle description |
|---|---|---|
| Arctis GameBuds for Xbox | Xbox model | Dual-mode dongle; Xbox wireless connection uses 2.4 GHz |
| Arctis GameBuds for PlayStation | PlayStation and PC | Single-mode dongle |
| Arctis GameBuds Glorange | SteelSeries says this edition is not compatible with Xbox | Xbox support is not provided |
For the platform distinction, see SteelSeries’ GameBuds Xbox-versus-PlayStation guide. The specific Glorange statement is in SteelSeries Support’s compatibility article, which says: “The Arctis GameBuds Glorange are not compatible with Xbox.”
What the compatibility result means
- If you have the Xbox edition, continue with the 2.4 GHz dongle steps below.
- If you have the PlayStation edition, do not expect a mode toggle, Xbox Bluetooth pairing, or another dongle to convert it into an Xbox model.
- If you have Glorange GameBuds, SteelSeries’ documented answer is that they cannot be used with Xbox.
SteelSeries also explains that each headset requires its dedicated transmitter. A transmitter marketed for another model cannot add Xbox compatibility to a headset that lacks it. See Which wireless transmitter will work with my headset? before considering any replacement.

Why the name on the earbuds can be misleading
Color, retailer wording and the generic “Arctis GameBuds” name are not reliable substitutes for the edition designation. A listing may omit the platform suffix, while a used set may have been separated from its original packaging. Match the earbuds and dongle as a pair and use the model markings or purchase documentation. If those details conflict, give SteelSeries support the exact markings rather than guessing from appearance.
Use the Xbox edition’s 2.4 GHz dongle
The documented Xbox wireless route is the Xbox GameBuds model connected through its own 2.4 GHz dongle. SteelSeries says the GameBuds normally arrive already paired to that dongle, so manual pairing is mainly needed when the original pairing has been lost, the earbuds were reset, or the dongle and buds no longer recognize one another.
Check the physical connection before re-pairing
- Use the dongle supplied with the Xbox GameBuds, not a transmitter from another headset.
- Plug the dongle into the device before beginning the final pairing step.
- Keep both earbuds together in their charging case at the start of the procedure.
- Have the dongle and both earbuds available; pairing one earbud while the other is elsewhere does not follow the documented starting condition.
The Xbox product documentation is indexed in the Arctis GameBuds for Xbox user manual and product information guide. The detailed re-pair sequence is in SteelSeries’ 2.4 GHz dongle pairing article.
Do not assume that a dongle that physically fits a USB port is the correct transmitter. Physical fit is not the same as model compatibility, and the manufacturer’s transmitter guidance is model-specific.
How do I re-pair Arctis GameBuds to the dongle?
Follow the LED stages in order. Blue is an intermediate Bluetooth-pairing indication; for the Xbox wireless connection you must continue to the green 2.4 GHz mode before pairing the dongle.

- Put both earbuds in the case. Leave them there while starting the button sequence.
- Enter the first pairing stage. Hold the button on either the left or right earbud for three seconds, then release it. The cited SteelSeries procedure says the earbuds enter a Bluetooth pairing stage and the LED blinks blue.
- Switch from Bluetooth stage to 2.4 GHz stage. Press and hold one earbud button for one second, then release it. The LED should blink green, indicating 2.4 GHz pairing mode.
- Connect the dongle. Plug the GameBuds dongle into the device. The support procedure refers to plugging it into a PS4 or “another device”; it does not publish a separate Xbox-console-specific re-pair sequence.
- Pair the transmitter. Hold the button on the dongle for three seconds. The GameBuds should then pair with that dongle.
Read the LEDs correctly
| LED indication in the documented procedure | Meaning | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Blue blinking | Bluetooth pairing stage | Press an earbud button for one second again to move to 2.4 GHz mode if your goal is dongle pairing |
| Green blinking | 2.4 GHz pairing mode | Plug in the dongle and hold its button for three seconds |
If you stop while the LEDs are blue, you have not completed the Xbox dongle procedure. Repeat the one-second earbud-button press and wait for green before holding the dongle button.
Timing and sequence pitfalls
The two holds on an earbud have different lengths and different purposes. The first is three seconds and produces blue; the second is one second and moves the buds to green 2.4 GHz mode. Holding for the wrong duration or treating the blue state as the finished state can leave the earbuds waiting for Bluetooth instead of the transmitter.
The final three-second hold is on the dongle button, not on an earbud. Keep the dongle connected when you perform that step. If the process does not complete, return both buds to the case and repeat the sequence from the beginning rather than mixing steps from different modes.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Can I connect Arctis GameBuds to Xbox with Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a separate connection mode. SteelSeries documents a Bluetooth pairing procedure that begins with both earbuds in the case and a three-second hold on an earbud button. Blue blinking indicates Bluetooth pairing mode, after which you select the GameBuds from the other device’s Bluetooth settings. The instructions are in How do I put my Arctis GameBuds into Bluetooth pairing mode?
That procedure does not establish Bluetooth as a substitute for the Xbox-specific dongle connection. Use Bluetooth as another connection mode for devices whose Bluetooth settings can complete the pairing; do not use it to bypass the edition requirement or to make PlayStation or Glorange GameBuds Xbox-compatible.
Bluetooth mode versus Xbox wireless mode
- Bluetooth: blue blinking LED, then pairing from the other device’s Bluetooth menu.
- Xbox wireless through the dongle: green blinking LED after the second earbud-button step, followed by a three-second hold on the dongle button.
Confusing these modes is a common reason an owner keeps seeing blue LEDs while trying to establish the 2.4 GHz link. If the intended destination is Xbox, use the Xbox edition and its dongle procedure even if Bluetooth pairing works with another device.
Reset the GameBuds only after pairing attempts fail
A factory-default reset is an escalation step, not the first fix for a model mismatch. Resetting cannot make a PlayStation or Glorange edition Xbox-compatible. It is appropriate only after you have confirmed the Xbox edition and tried the documented pairing process.

Reset with the Arctis Companion App
- Connect the GameBuds to the Arctis Companion App.
- Open Settings.
- Select Restore Factory Defaults.
- Follow the instructions shown by the app.
Reset with SteelSeries GG on a computer
- Open SteelSeries GG on your PC or Mac.
- Open Engine.
- Select Arctis GameBuds.
- Choose Restore Factory Defaults.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
The reset guide does not specify exactly which stored settings or pairings are erased. Do not assume a particular profile, Bluetooth record or transmitter relationship will be preserved or removed unless the reset instructions tell you so. After the reset finishes, use the applicable official pairing procedure again: the Xbox edition’s 2.4 GHz sequence for the console dongle, or the separate Bluetooth sequence for a Bluetooth device.
What if the dongle is missing, damaged or not recognized?
Do not buy a generic transmitter as a compatibility fix
SteelSeries says transmitters are model-specific and that Xbox compatibility comes from the compatible headset model and its dedicated transmitter. An “X” printed on a replacement dongle does not convert PlayStation or Glorange GameBuds into an Xbox headset. The GameBuds support pages covered here do not establish a particular replacement-dongle listing or current availability.
A generic USB Bluetooth adapter is likewise not documented as an Xbox replacement for the GameBuds dongle. Buying one before confirming the edition can add cost without addressing the underlying compatibility limit.
Give support the exact model information
If the original Xbox dongle is missing or appears faulty, contact SteelSeries support with the exact edition name, the markings on the earbuds and dongle, and your purchase details. Identifying the model first helps support determine whether a transmitter is appropriate; substituting a generic wireless adapter cannot solve an edition-level incompatibility.
If the dongle is present but not recognized, record that symptom separately from an earbud-pairing failure. The available GameBuds instructions do not provide a universal Xbox-console checklist for USB detection, so avoid treating a different headset’s procedure as an official GameBuds fix.
Console symptoms not covered by the GameBuds pairing article
The GameBuds pages document edition compatibility, Bluetooth mode, 2.4 GHz re-pairing and factory reset. They do not provide a complete Xbox-console checklist for every symptom, such as a dongle that is not detected, missing audio, microphone failure or intermittent disconnections.
Do not apply instructions written for another headset as though they were GameBuds-specific. For example, SteelSeries has a separate Xbox setup page for the Arctis 7X, but that product is not the Arctis GameBuds. If the correct Xbox edition still fails after the documented re-pair and reset procedures, use SteelSeries’ support channels and identify the exact GameBuds model rather than following a different headset’s sequence.
Describe the failure precisely when escalating
- State whether the earbuds are the Xbox edition, PlayStation edition or Glorange edition.
- Report whether the LED remains blue, reaches green, or shows no pairing indication.
- Say whether the dongle is detected by the connected device.
- Separate the symptom: no pairing, no game audio, no microphone input, or intermittent connection.
- Include whether you already restored factory defaults in the Companion App or SteelSeries GG.
- Identify which button was held and for how long if the sequence seemed to stop at a particular stage.
- Note whether you used the original transmitter or a replacement, and provide its markings.
Comparison: Xbox, PlayStation and Glorange routes
These editions should not be treated as interchangeable purchases. The Xbox edition is the appropriate route for Xbox because SteelSeries identifies it with a dual-mode dongle and a 2.4 GHz Xbox connection. The PlayStation edition is described for PlayStation and PC with a single-mode dongle. Glorange is explicitly identified by SteelSeries as not compatible with Xbox.

If you are replacing an incompatible set, look specifically for Arctis GameBuds for Xbox, not merely a product title that says Arctis GameBuds. Confirm the edition before purchasing, and do not count on a replacement transmitter to change the platform support of the earbuds you already own.
A decision path for a failed Xbox connection
- Confirm the edition. Stop if it is Glorange or the PlayStation model; neither is documented as Xbox-compatible.
- Use the matching Xbox dongle. The Xbox wireless path is the Xbox edition’s dedicated 2.4 GHz transmitter.
- Start with both buds in the case. This is the documented condition for the pairing sequence.
- Re-pair in the correct LED order. Three-second earbud hold for blue, one-second earbud hold for green, then three-second dongle-button hold.
- Keep Bluetooth separate. Blue means Bluetooth pairing stage in the documented sequence; it is not proof that Xbox wireless pairing is complete.
- Restore factory defaults if needed. Use the Companion App or GG, then repeat the applicable pairing procedure.
- Escalate model-specific hardware or console symptoms. A different dongle cannot add Xbox support, and the available GameBuds instructions do not establish a universal console-side fix.
Frequently asked questions
Why won’t my Arctis GameBuds connect to my Xbox even though they turn on?
Powering on does not confirm Xbox compatibility. Check whether the set is the Xbox edition and whether you are using its dedicated 2.4 GHz dongle. PlayStation and Glorange editions are not documented as Xbox-compatible, and blue Bluetooth pairing is not the Xbox dongle connection.
How can I tell whether my GameBuds are the Xbox version?
Check the exact product name on the packaging, purchase record, case, earbuds and dongle. SteelSeries describes the Xbox version as having a dual-mode dongle, while the PlayStation version has a single-mode dongle for PlayStation and PC. If the markings are unclear, provide them to SteelSeries support.
Are Arctis GameBuds Glorange compatible with Xbox?
No. SteelSeries states that the Arctis GameBuds Glorange are not compatible with Xbox. Re-pairing, Bluetooth, a factory reset or another transmitter does not change that compatibility statement.
Can I connect the PlayStation GameBuds to Xbox by buying an Xbox dongle?
SteelSeries says each headset requires its dedicated transmitter. The available compatibility guidance does not describe a replacement dongle as a conversion method, so do not expect an Xbox transmitter to turn the PlayStation edition into an Xbox model.
What does a blue blinking LED mean?
In the documented sequence, blue blinking indicates the Bluetooth pairing stage. For 2.4 GHz dongle pairing, press and hold an earbud button for one second again until the LED blinks green, then hold the connected dongle button for three seconds.
Do I need to re-pair GameBuds that worked out of the box?
Normally, SteelSeries says the GameBuds arrive already paired to their dongle. Manual re-pairing is mainly for a lost pairing, a reset or a situation in which the earbuds and dongle no longer recognize each other.
Will a factory reset erase my pairings?
SteelSeries provides the reset commands but does not specify in the cited guide exactly which stored settings or pairings are erased. After restoring factory defaults, follow the appropriate 2.4 GHz or Bluetooth pairing procedure again.

What should I do if the Xbox dongle is missing?
Do not assume a generic adapter will work. Contact SteelSeries support with the exact GameBuds edition, earbud and dongle markings, and purchase information. The support pages covered here do not confirm a particular replacement listing or its availability.
Is there a separate Xbox-console re-pair sequence?
The published 2.4 GHz article gives the earbud and dongle button sequence and refers to plugging the dongle into a PS4 or another device. It does not publish a separate Xbox-console-specific re-pair sequence. Use the documented sequence and contact SteelSeries if the correct Xbox edition still fails.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t my Arctis GameBuds connect to my Xbox?
First verify that the earbuds are the Xbox edition and that you are using its dedicated 2.4 GHz dongle. The PlayStation edition is described for PlayStation and PC, and SteelSeries says Glorange GameBuds are not Xbox-compatible.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Can I connect Arctis GameBuds to Xbox with Bluetooth?
Bluetooth is a separate mode. Blue blinking starts Bluetooth pairing, but SteelSeries documents the Xbox wireless route through the Xbox edition’s 2.4 GHz dongle. Bluetooth does not make an incompatible edition work with Xbox.
How do I re-pair Arctis GameBuds to the dongle?
Put both buds in the case, hold either earbud button for three seconds until blue, hold an earbud button for one second until green, plug in the dongle, and hold the dongle button for three seconds.
What does green blinking mean?
Green blinking indicates 2.4 GHz pairing mode in the documented procedure. After reaching green, connect the dongle and hold its button for three seconds.
Can another SteelSeries dongle add Xbox support?
No. SteelSeries says transmitters are dedicated to particular headset models. A different transmitter cannot convert PlayStation or Glorange GameBuds into an Xbox headset.

What if the correct Xbox edition still does not connect?
Repeat the documented blue-to-green 2.4 GHz re-pair sequence, reset through the Companion App or SteelSeries GG if needed, then contact SteelSeries with the exact model, LED behavior, dongle detection status and symptom.
The Bottom Line
Check the edition before trying anything else. Only the Xbox model and its dedicated dual-mode 2.4 GHz dongle are documented for Xbox; PlayStation and Glorange editions cannot be converted with Bluetooth or another transmitter. For an Xbox set that has lost pairing, use the three-second earbud hold for blue, the one-second hold for green, then hold the connected dongle button for three seconds. Reset through the Companion App or SteelSeries GG only after that process fails, and escalate unresolved console or hardware symptoms to SteelSeries with your exact model details.
