The STFC Borg Cube tier chart shows the Operations-level or faction-ship prerequisite for each warp component tier. The Epic Borg Cube becomes available at Operations level 28, and its progression scales with faction-ship strength through the Operations level 70 track described by Scopely. The chart below is a requirement map—not a guarantee that an account has claimed every required Borg Data Node.

G3 through G6 identify the faction-ship grade; rarity and tier are separate parts of the requirement. The early listed gates are Operations levels, while later entries call for a faction ship meeting the specified grade, rarity, and tier.
What faction ship tier do you need?
Use the row for the Cube tier you are trying to reach. For example, tier 8 requires a G4 Epic faction ship at tier 4; tier 9 requires a G4 Epic at tier 8. The required faction ship may be from your Federation, Klingon, or Romulan fleet, but the cited chart does not specify a particular faction.

Meeting the ship milestone and having the upgrade item available are not always the same thing. Scopely’s Borg Cube Help Center article says Borg Data Nodes are awarded when faction-ship milestones are reached and claimed in the Gifts tab. Check the in-game upgrade prompt and Gifts tab on your account rather than assuming the item has already been collected.
How to tier up the Borg Cube
- Open the Borg Cube’s upgrade screen and identify the warp component tier you want to unlock.
- Check the chart for that tier’s Operations gate or faction-ship grade, rarity, and tier prerequisite.
- If the requirement is a faction-ship milestone, reach it and claim the corresponding Borg Data Node in the Gifts tab.
- Return to the Cube upgrade screen and follow its current prompt for any remaining upgrade requirements and materials.
The Help Center describes the Cube as having 18 tiers and 90 levels, and says a maxed G6 Epic ship is required to tier up at the top end. It also states that a Commander can acquire and tier up to three Borg Cubes. Because acquisition routes and account requirements can change, use the live in-game prompt for the final check.
What the Borg Cube’s Cutting Beam does
The Cube’s Borg Cutting Beam charges as the ship deals hull damage in regular combat. Once charged, it can target a ship anywhere in the same system without entering normal combat; the attack deals direct hull damage and bypasses defenses.
Scopely’s Help Center lists player stations, Alliance Starbases, and Armada targets as ineligible targets. It also describes diminishing returns against targets above the attacker’s level or Operations level; the precise wording varies across Scopely’s official pages, so do not treat the ability as a dependable shortcut against stronger targets.

A successful PvE kill with the ability awards Technological Distinctiveness. The Help Center says this can be refined into Borg Cube upgrade materials or materials for Borg Cube research in the Ex-Borg tree.

The Borg Sphere is a separate ship, not a later Cube tier. Scopely’s Update 89 article describes it as an Epic G5 battleship for Operations level 55 and above, aimed at Conqueror Borg Suppressors and Obliterators. Its progression and abilities do not change the Borg Cube chart above.
