The right lineup depends on your ship, officers, research, Fleet Commander skills, Operations level and opponent. Use the Scopely-backed examples below as starting points, then choose for the specific fight: open-space PvP, a station attack or Arena.
When does ship PvP unlock?
Scopely says Ship PvP unlocks at Ops 10. Its PvP guidance also says crew choices depend on your unlocked officers, ships, research, Fleet Commander skills and Ops level, so a lineup that works for one account may not suit another.

Which crews should you try for ship PvP?
Scopely lists these as examples, not guaranteed winners for every ship or matchup. Check that you have the exact officer variants named and that their abilities fit your plan.
| Situation | Crew | Why consider it |
|---|---|---|
| Baseline TOS lineup | TOS James T. Kirk (captain), TOS Spock, Nyota Uhura | Listed by Scopely as a recommended PvP combination. |
| Broad ship damage | PIC Admiral Picard (captain), PIC Riker, PIC Worf | Scopely describes this lineup as increasing damage against all ship types. That does not make it optimal for every current fight. |
| General PvP with status effects | Hierarch (captain), T’ana, HG Worf | Scopely suggests this combination for state-based effects; Fleet Commander Khan is noted as a pairing to help apply states. |
How do Hierarch and Nog crews work?
Scopely’s officer guidance distinguishes general PvP from station attacks. These abilities are conditional: the Hierarch and Nog benefits described below depend on the opponent having a state, so the crew needs a way to apply one consistently.

General PvP: Hierarch
At max rank, Hierarch’s officer ability has a 100% chance at round start against players to apply one of Hull Breach, Burning or Assimilate, according to Scopely’s 2025 article. When the opponent has a state, the captain maneuver can grant up to 200% more ship shots for two rounds. Scopely suggests T’ana and HG Worf in the crew, with Fleet Commander Khan as a pairing.
Station attacks: Nog
For a station attack, Scopely recommends Nog (captain), Rom and VIL Winn Adami as an alpha-strike crew. Nog’s captain maneuver grants 20,000 Apex Barrier for two rounds at round start on station attacks. His officer ability reduces the opponent’s critical-hit chance for two rounds when the opponent has a state; Scopely gives a rank-dependent range of 20% to 70%. The article also suggests putting VIL Dukat and Kira Nerys below deck to further protect against critical hits.

Difficult bases or siege
Scopely also suggests Nog (captain), Hierarch and Rom for difficult base attacks. Hierarch supplies states that enable Nog’s critical-hit reduction, while Rom supports station damage flow.
Which Mirror Universe crew fits the opponent?
Scopely’s Mirror Universe recommendations vary by target ship type. The general lineup focuses on isolytic offense, Apex Barrier and more shots; the matchup-specific variants trade pieces to suit the opponent.
Rank #3
- Redemption: Instore
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
| Situation | Crew | Scopely’s stated role |
|---|---|---|
| General Mirror PvP | Mirror Picard, Mirror Data, Mirror Kira | Isolytic offense, Apex Barrier and increased shot count. |
| Defend against strong isolytic damage | Mirror Kira, Mirror Data, Mirror Picard | A more defensive variant with a stronger barrier, giving up Mirror Picard’s isolytic damage. |
| Against Explorers | Mirror Troi, Mirror Data, Mirror Kira | Barrier suited to Explorer opponents, with more shots and energy weapon damage. |
| Against Battleships | Mirror Ezri, Mirror Data, Mirror Kira | Barrier suited to Battleship opponents, with more shots and kinetic weapon damage. |
How should you adapt a crew to the fight?
- Identify the mode. Open-space PvP, station attacks and Arena have different objectives; do not assume one crew solves all three.
- Check the opponent and ship. For example, Scopely’s Mirror recommendations change for Explorer and Battleship targets.
- Verify ability conditions. Hierarch’s and Nog’s state-dependent effects require the opponent to have a state. Consider whether your lineup can apply one reliably.
- Account for your roster and progression. Officer availability, ship, research, Fleet Commander skills and Ops level all affect the choice.
- Use the recommendations as starting points. Scopely’s examples define roles and synergies, but do not guarantee a win or establish one best crew for every account.
How is Arena different from ordinary ship PvP?
Arena is an instanced, objective-based team mode, not simply a one-ship duel. Scopely’s 2024 launch guide describes five-player squads, up to two active ships per player, and the ability to switch ships and crews during a match. Teams can earn points from NPCs, player kills and Arena-specific Armadas, so roster flexibility and coordination matter alongside individual ship combat. The guide’s original event schedule is historical; check the in-game schedule for current timing.
