Stolen Realm Review: A Classless Tactical RPG for Solo Play and Co-op

Stolen Realm pairs simultaneous-turn tactics with classless skill-tree builds, loot and solo or up-to-six-player online co-op. Here’s what its official features and updates establish—and what they don’t.

Stolen Realm is a simultaneous-turn dungeon-crawling RPG built around flexible skill-tree characters, loot and online co-op. It may suit players looking for tactical party play without fixed classes; whether its combat and progression feel satisfying over a full campaign cannot be established from the official feature descriptions alone.

What kind of game is Stolen Realm?

Stolen Realm combines tactical dungeon crawling with action-RPG loot and character building. Rather than locking a hero into a conventional class, it lets players assemble builds from skill trees. Burst2Flame Games’ Steam listing describes a high-fantasy, low-poly setting and advertises more than 300 abilities across 10 skill trees and more than 700 items. Those are publisher-listed feature counts, not independently audited totals.

The game’s defining combat distinction is that both sides act at the same time. The store says players plan movement and abilities while positioning and team synergies shape encounters, describing the approach as: “Both sides act at the same time, keeping battles quick without losing tactical depth.” That is the publisher’s description of the design, not an independent assessment of how the pacing or tactical clarity feels in extended play.

How does combat and progression work?

Simultaneous turns and team tactics

Instead of waiting for each side to finish a separate turn, players plan actions while opponents act in the same phase. The advertised emphasis on positioning and synergy suggests that build choices are intended to matter in relation to the rest of the party, not just as isolated damage upgrades. The available official information does not establish how demanding encounters are, how well the system is balanced, or how consistently the interface communicates enemy intentions.

Classless builds and loot

The Steam page presents skill-tree choice and equipment as the main ways to shape heroes, rather than fixed class selection. That offers room to experiment with different combinations, though the listing alone cannot show how viable those combinations are or how often loot meaningfully changes a build. In the September 15 v1.3.1 announcement, the developer said Campaign characters could reassign skill and attribute points for free in town. For Roguelike characters, the update added a power-up that removes selected skill trees from the pool of possible skills.

Expeditions and Roguelike choices

Expeditions use procedurally generated maps, according to the store listing. After battles, branching choices can lead to options such as treasure rooms, story events, merchants, resource gathering or riskier encounters. The structure is designed to mix combat with decisions about what to pursue next; official descriptions do not establish how much variety those branches deliver across repeated runs.

Can you play Stolen Realm solo?

Yes. The Steam listing says you can control up to six heroes solo, as well as play online co-op. Solo players can therefore engage with the party-based tactical premise without needing other people to fill the team. The listing does not detail the solo interface or establish how the experience compares in difficulty or pace with multiplayer.

How many players can play co-op?

The Steam listing advertises online co-op for up to six players, with drop-in/drop-out play and automatically scaling encounters. That makes it a possible fit for groups that want to adventure together while allowing players to join or leave during a session. The store describes the scaling feature but does not specify its exact rules or guarantee that every group size produces an equally tuned challenge.

What changed in Stolen Realm v1.3.1?

Burst2Flame Games announced v1.3.1 on September 15. The changes listed by the developer include:

  • Roguelike difficulty levels can continue beyond Difficulty VI after completion.
  • A Roguelike power-up can remove selected skill trees from a character’s skill pool.
  • Campaign characters can reassign skill and attribute points for free in town.
  • Inventory search gained improvements and autocomplete, with Fortune filtering added.
  • The update includes performance improvements and fixes concerning multiplayer data, map generation, combat and progression.

These are the changes described in the developer’s Steam Community announcements. The September 15 update is the latest version verified here; that does not establish that it remains the newest version now.

Release history, platforms and controls

Stolen Realm entered Early Access on October 14, 2021, and reached full release on March 8, 2024. Steam lists Burst2Flame Games as both developer and publisher. The verified listing is for Steam; it marks the game Steam Deck Playable and lists full controller support, including Xbox Controllers. Support for other devices is not stated on the listing.

The Steam page also lists the Chaos Pack and soundtrack as DLC. Availability and pricing can vary by region and over time, so check the live store listing for current details.

Is Stolen Realm worth considering?

On paper, Stolen Realm brings together three clear draws: simultaneous-turn tactical combat, classless build customization and online co-op for groups of up to six. Solo play is also supported, while procedural expeditions and a Roguelike mode offer a structure beyond a single straightforward campaign. Those ingredients make it worth a closer look for players who want party tactics and loot-driven character building rather than a conventional class-based RPG.

That is a design-based recommendation, not a hands-on verdict. The available official sources do not establish combat feel, build balance, performance, bug frequency or the amount of meaningful variety over a long playthrough. Players weighing it against other tactical RPGs should treat those qualities as unresolved rather than assume that the advertised feature list guarantees them.

What’s next for the series?

On October 1, Burst2Flame Games announced Stolen Realm 2, describing it as a sequel with tactical turn-based combat, classless building, online co-op for up to six, and Campaign and Roguelike modes. The announcement did not provide a release date. The developer also said the original game remains important to the team: “We haven’t forgotten about Stolen Realm!” In context, the same announcement says the team had recently released an update and that work on the original continues. These are statements from the developer, not an independent status audit of ongoing development.
