Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is a 2023 remake of the 2003 GameCube game Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life. Nintendo Life reports that each season lasts 10 in-game days and each chapter lasts at least a year. Its review says the game takes a long time to build momentum. Does the passage of time make the story special?
Reviews point to the changing town as the remake’s distinctive hook. IGN’s June 20, 2023 review summary highlights how the town and its residents adapt and age across a potentially 30-year campaign. That long horizon gives ordinary relationships and community details a different weight from a farming game built around short-term goals.

That feature does not guarantee that everyone will want to stay for the whole journey. IGN also raises concerns about the number of standout characters and rewards, while The Guardian emphasizes the game’s sentiment and atmosphere. The town’s evolution is most likely to land if you enjoy observing change over time, not if you need a steady stream of major discoveries to stay engaged.
What is the mood like?
The Guardian describes the game as a “soothing and sentimental farming sim,” while also noting its melancholy tone, the sense of space between homes, and restrained music. It is cozy, but not simply an endlessly cheerful farm fantasy: aging and change are part of its emotional texture.
