Stranded Sails: Explorers of the Cursed Islands is a single-player adventure built around farming, cooking and camp life between expeditions across a mysterious archipelago. It may suit players who want guided, story-led exploration alongside cozy routines; it is a less certain fit if you want an entirely open-ended farm sim or a combat-free experience. Store descriptions establish what the game offers, but not how satisfying those systems feel in play.

What kind of game is Stranded Sails?

You play as a shipwreck survivor whose crew must establish a camp and find a way off the islands. The game combines farming, cooking, crafting, camp management, exploration, relationships and a linear story quest. The premise and feature descriptions appear on the Steam listing, as well as the Nintendo and Xbox store pages.

The central rhythm is to tend to practical needs at camp, then venture out to gather resources and uncover activities on the islands. Exploration is on foot and by boat. Steam’s description also mentions fishing spots, food reserves and energy management, so expeditions are tied to preparation rather than discovery alone.

The story quest provides direction, rather than leaving the whole adventure to player-led farming. Steam describes a linear quest line and an ending at which the crew can either leave the islands or be convinced to stay. That makes the game sound more like a guided adventure with farming systems than an open-ended farming sandbox.

Stranded Sails - Nintendo Switch
  • An open world farming adventure where you'll explore and cook to survive!
  • Watch your Energy reserves and choose the right foods to replenish
  • Provide food for your Crew and improve their level of happiness
  • Explore several islands and search for useful items
  • Manage the creation and expansion of a survivors' Camp

How do farming, exploration and camp life fit together?

Farming and cooking support the survival-and-expedition loop: the crew needs supplies, and the player gathers resources while exploring. Camp management and decoration give those routines a home base. Steam says decorating a shack and giving gifts can improve relationships with crew members, with relationship perks attached. Those details suggest social interactions have a gameplay role as well as a narrative one.

The trade-off to consider is how much time you want to spend maintaining camp and supplies before returning to exploration. The game’s official descriptions confirm that both are present, but do not establish their balance, the pace of progression, or whether relationship perks feel consequential. Those are the deciding questions for anyone choosing it over a more focused farming or exploration game.

Is Stranded Sails a relaxed game, or is there combat?

Combat is part of the adventure: supernatural dangers, including ghosts, appear in the store descriptions. The ESRB rating record classifies it E10+ (Everyone 10+) for Fantasy Violence and Mild Language. ESRB describes a 3/4-overhead adventure in which players gather resources, farm crops and fight ghosts with melee attacks.

So, “cozy” is a partial description, not a promise of a combat-free game. The available descriptions confirm that fighting exists, but do not say how often encounters happen or how challenging they are. If you want farming and exploration without supernatural enemies, that uncertainty matters.

What do player ratings say?

Store ratings show different responses on different platforms, and the figures are not directly comparable:

Store Displayed player rating What it represents
Steam 72% positive from 786 reviews Steam’s all-time user-review snapshot, labeled “Mostly Positive” when accessed on October 8, 2026.
PlayStation Store 2.64 out of 5 from 371 ratings Global player average displayed on the US store page when accessed on October 8, 2026.
GOG / OpenCritic 57 average; 21% Critics Recommend OpenCritic figures displayed by GOG when accessed on October 8, 2026; a critic aggregation, not a player-store rating.

These are separate snapshots with different audiences, rating scales and review types—not one unified score. They can help set expectations, but they do not establish how the farming, exploration, relationships or combat will feel to you. Figures may change after October 8, 2026.

  • UNIQUE PLAYER POWERS - If you can use your pirate's special ability effectively, you and your partner just might survive this difficult
  • WORK WITH YOUR PARTNER - Unlike many other 2 player games, you'll need to work with your partner to play cards, create combos, and escape the kraken before it sinks you!
  • SMALL BOX, BIG GAME - Bring Sail along with you while you travel, camp, or road trip. Or, use it as the perfect stocking stuffer for anyone who loves two player board games.

Which platform should you choose?

The game is listed for Windows PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and Xbox One and Series X|S. The listings confirm availability, but they do not establish that one version performs better or has better controls. Choose based on your preferred platform and how you want to play.

  • Windows PC: Steam offers a digital listing. GOG also lists the Windows game and says it can be installed from an offline installer without GOG Galaxy.
  • Nintendo Switch: Nintendo’s US listing identifies the edition as digital, gives a 2.4 GB file size and supports TV, tabletop and handheld modes. It notes that play experience may differ on Switch Lite; it does not say that this game requires an additional accessory. The listing says behavior on Nintendo Switch 2 is consistent with Switch.
  • PlayStation: The US PlayStation Store lists the game for PS4 and PS5. The cited PS5 listing gives a release date of November 16, 2021.
  • Xbox: The Xbox store listing covers Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

The Steam, Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox and GOG pages establish digital store options; the available listings do not verify a physical edition.

Allplay Sail Board Game, Co-op Trick-Taking Game, 20 Min, 2 Players
  • Trick-taking done differently - We've played a lot of trick-taking games and love many of them. In Sail, tricks are still where the primary decisions are made, but you aren't making the decision just to win tricks. You're working to manipulate the tricks to navigate the map.
  • 2-Player Co-op - What makes it special is the ability to dig in with a friend or significant other and play over and over again to truly explore the game's depth.
  • Pirate Powers - Every game, you can play as a different pirate (with unique art by Weberson Santiago). Each pirate has a different power which really changes how you play.
  • Co-op Trick Taking Card Game. 20 Minute Playing Time. 2 Players. Ages 11+

Who is Stranded Sails best suited to?

Based on the advertised systems, it is a reasonable shortlist pick if you want a single-player adventure that alternates between island exploration and hands-on camp routines, with a linear story providing direction. It is also worth considering if crew relationships and light supernatural combat sound like welcome additions to farming and cooking.

Be more cautious if you need to know in advance that the game is combat-free, that upkeep is minimal, or that its relationships and resource management are especially deep. The store descriptions do not answer those experiential questions, and the platform ratings vary. The practical choice is to match its advertised mix to your preferences, then treat storefront scores as context rather than a guarantee.
